"Coffee and a fag for breakfast, red wine and a large amaretto for lunch, a couple of lines of coke, then I'd do Drivetime on Radio 2...
Johnnie Walker tells of the day a life of fame and glory turned to disaster - and how he fought his way back ... "

I should add that its about his life long battle with serious depression & how he came close to ending it all on one occassion. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I might buy his autobiography but not at nearly £19 a pop.
I don't think it will be a particularly cheerful read though judging by reading the extract posted . |

There's also an artical about him in today's Mail On Sunday. Is it the same one? _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I'm sure it will be cheaper on amazon or in the supermarket. I'll think I'll wait for the softback myself. |

Mark , the truth is all too often, bitter and unpleasant. That's life. |

That's very profound Rachel.

Sadly Rachel you are probably correct.
For what it's worth I read Annie Nightingale's autobiography recently-now that was an excellent read- again like JW she has had some difficulties in her life.
Like TTS suggests I will wait for JW's book to come out in the supermarket-I'm not going to pay £19 for it. |

I wonder if he will be a guest on Radio 2 shows to promote his book. I'm guessing he will be on Steve Wright and maybe Aled's show. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Well he still has guests but just as part of business & sport and he has two other interview spots but they tend to be news or lifestlye related. the plugger spot where they competed for time to plug their latest merchandise was axed a while ago. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I heard Steve Wright say JW would be on his show sometime in the near future the other day when he was giving out a list of all the forthcoming guests. He didn't say when though.

There was a feature in the Mail on Sunday yesterday with a picture of loads of presenters and former presenters. Johnnie was a stunner in his youth. I didn't pick him out of the line up. I had to call in my hubby to get all the names.
Thanks PJ - Life is what ever you make it. I'm pretty upbeat on it at the moment. |

His early career on Swinging Radio England and then Radio Caroline will make for good reading on its own. The fact that he used to fill in between jobs as a truck driver shows the guy for being the lovely, down to earth bloke that he is. I have met him several times - and his wife tiggy - and he really is just like he sounds on the radio. He spent the best part of a year writing the book and it is long overdue!
One of our finest DJs ever.
PS: The story of how he got the name of a whisky brand is a good one in itself. His real name is an unlikely sounding Peter Dingley and he used to DJ in and around Birmingham as Peter Dee. He was a good-looker and had no shortage of female admirers! |
