What I heard of yesterday's SOTS was as great as ever but my listening was considerably broken up by my receiving several long phone calls.
Making any sort of contact with me during SOTS is of course on a par with committing high treason and those responsible will be receiving solicitors' letters in the next few days!
But I shall catch up on Listen Again and no doubt comment after I've done that.

I always have the radio on at 8 am for my favourite show of the week! but as I tend to be in and out I always record the show and listen to 10 or 15 minutes each morning as I'm having a scrub up! sometimes I hear the show twice over.
It was great to hear The Shangri-La's, ( really liked their sound ) John Lee Hooker and possibly best of all - The Pretty Things - Rosalin! |

I still like the show, but please Brian, can you go back to back-announcing all the tracks, surely most important when playing rarities. I notice there seems to be an increase in rushing to just play that trailer we've heard hundreds of times already, I'd much rather be told what I've just heard, in case I missed it beforehand. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I sympathise, LEE - very few of us can sit down and devote our ears to it fully at that time of the morning. I know there's the Music Played list, but it's not the same!
Great show, as usual, though - higher than normal proportion of lesser-known and rare records, I thought (at least, I've only got eight of them, as opposed to the usual dozen or so). _________________ Ron |

I missed the first hour again this week. I don't know if it's just me, but the show doesn't seem to be the same since Roger Bowman left. It's no longer a must listen again show sadly.

I think you're right in what you say there Helen, there's definitely a different feel to the show now.The new producer seems to select a lot more rarities than Roger used to-even by well known artists. While this isn't necessarily a bad thing I think it all comes down to a question of balance, by all means play the rare stuff but we also need a few well known tracks too.
I've got to admit that during the last couple of weeks I've been struggling to find much to singalong to (although some might say that's a good thing!) _________________ The wheel keeps on turning...

Good to know it's not just me, I was beginning to feel that it was though.

Have now caught up on Listen Again!
Agree that the emphasis has changed a bit but for me that's to the good. We still have a few well-known items but too many of these would make the show lose its unique flavour.
A good selection of slightly lesser-known pieces by well-known artistes. The Bob Lind one, Remember the Rain, should get another airing on B side/A side sometime, as Truly Julie's Blues is another classic.
I suppose Bob Monkhouse was following in Des O'Connor's footsteps with Natalie, as Mr O'C, primarily a comic, had enjoyed much success with his singing.

I suppose we should wait for a few weeks and let things settle down. Clearly the sources are different - there seems less emphasis on the early sixties (pre-Beatles) artists for a start. Although there was a lot of unfamiliar stuff this week, there were at least 11 Top 20 songs, and more that were just as familiar, last week. _________________ Ron |
