I think it's been mentioned before but this Sunday's change over at 6.30 really did go from one extreme to the other!
Johnnie finished with Springsteen's "Born To Run" almost immediately followed by Verdi's "Gloria" the first offering on Alan's show. Both rousing in their own ways but not what you'd expect to hear one after the other!
Somehow it worked though.

I rarely listen to Titchy now, yet I was a regular Morley/RBaker listener.
I'd like if Alan played the musicals/variety items first hour of show and then the classical pieces the rest of the show.

I've listened more in the last 3 or 4 weeks John, maybe something to do with the lighter nights. I do wonder if it would be better if it were only 90 mins though as it was this Sunday, the same goes for POTPs IMO anyway!

There's nothing wrong with Musical Contrasts on Radio 2, be they a minute apart or a day apart.
Remember old Clout used to fret about Walker vs Carrington, and Gambo saturday vs Morley sunday orBrand saturday vs RBaker sunday and of course he never listened to any of the shows, and claimed Carrington = RBaker
In the classical world concerts do it all the time, start with a bit of Handel, then a bit of Beethoven and finish with a Maxwell-Davies! Probably not a lot of people really enjoy all three! |

He did it again tonight with another Springsteen song and he said something to the effect that it wasn't maybe Alan's cup of tea!
Has he been reading this message board??......

Well obviously Springsteen is not Alan's cup of tea just as I don't suppose Vivaldi is Johnnie's cup of tea. |

I doubt they are as co-ordinated as that. I think Walkers show is mainly live now, but Alan's is very recorded. Tonight he kicked off with Copelands Rodeo and some jokes about Alsatians. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I think Johnnie's is still recorded as is Alan's. His little quip made me smile though, and he was on form tonight I thought.
