Julia, we may be wrinkly, but the brain box is still alive and you are as old as you act and feel! We were 18 once you know and thought pretty much the same about people more than 5 years older than us, so none taken gal _________________ Old Bikers Never Die, our leathers just get tighter! |

Julia,
I was being polite (and showing my age) The true saying used to go "You are only as old as the Man/Woman what's feeling you up".
Worked a dream when I was your age and was going for a double VAT.
VAT= Vodka and Tonic.
It's from "The Sweeney" |

I was going to explain, but thought better of it, there are some advatages to being older, you don't have to try & impress anymore cause you just don't care!

1970s TV cop series with Dennis Waterman & John Thaw in the lead roles. 'Sweeney' being short for 'Sweeney Todd', which in turn is cockney rhyming slang for 'Flying squad'. Despite the term 'Flying Squad', I don't remember aircraft being used in it, but plenty of cars with screeching tyres though!
Phillip Glenister's Life On Mars character 'Gene Hunt' appears to have been influenced by John Thaw's character in The Sweeny D I Regan, though I don't remember Dennis Waterman's Character in that series being anything like the John Simm one in Life On Mars .
However, have a look at http://www.thesweeney.info/ _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I don't think it's just an age thing, well not directly, I am only 3 years older than but we obviously have different music, tastes, views of R2 and DJs.
I would suggest it's more to do with what music / radio etc you have come across in your life that has influenced you, eg what your parents etc played, what your brothers/ sisters listened to and their age difference to you, what music was around when you got interested and bought, what you heard on the Radio and what you want from radio / music.
My parents were born in the 20s and like per-60s stuff but at home we always listened to 'sing something simple' etc and the Top 40 show ever week, upto the mid/late 70's. My sister / brother were both older and they listened to 60's and early 70's. I enjoyed all this and mid 70's onwards, tailing off during the late 80's and 90's, but still finding some good music around now.
I can listen to anything from many decades and appreciate it, irrelevant of it's or my age.
I listened to radio when there were good professional DJs around, who knew about music eg John Peel, Bob Harris, Tommy Vance, Alan Freeman etc not just entertainers. I also find I expect the BBC to be the high standard it used to be not just competition to ILR, and rating figure orientated. |
