Good to see Radio 2 getting a good kicking on eyhe BBC message board -see the thread "Enough is Enough".
Having scrolled through the thread I agree with the masses completely-the notion/idea/lets stick to a safe playlist is a total nonsense.
The sooner Radio 2 wake up and start playing a much wider selection of music especially in the daytime schedules the better.
Certainly the current daytime presenters seem very content just to play the same old records over and over again. |

I say put Bob Harris on 2 - 5 Monday to Friday, then we might get an eclectic music playlist!

Naive question--why have a playlist at all?

Ian,
Because it's easier for the programme producers.... If they could choose anything they wanted to play they might have to start using their brains _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! |

Spot on, John... that also plays a large part in the decision as to what gets played- regardless of which station you happen to listen to. _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! |

Yes I do most of the time TSS, it's just that they seem to play the same record on every show, so a little less repetition of the flavour of week/month would be more to my liking, thank you. This of course would mean more diversity, due to less repetition.

I agree about the repetition but there will always be certain songs they plug. I usually hit the mute button for a few minutes if I find a song annoying, this always happens when I hear Take That |

Question-Which of the current crop of the Radio 2 presenters plays the most new music over any given week.
My guess would probably be Bob Harris but would appreciate others views.
Thanks. |

Although he does have a production team, Bob hand picks the music himself on his Saturday - into - Sunday show. I presume the same applies with Bob Harris Country. I wonder if he would get the same freedom of music if he was on regularly in the daytime. When he did Drivetime over Christmas, much of the music was the playlist stuff of the time, although he was allowed to bring a few of his own CDs in.
Mark Radcliffe seems to have a fairly free hand music wise on his regular night time show, though he had to play the playlist stuff too in the afternoon last week. I think that if you're on in the daytime Mon-Fri then you're much more restricted to the playlist stuff. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Depends on how you define 'new' - I think Nigel Ogden could be in with a shout, as I think they may still use specially recorded BBC sessions! _________________ "....you're wearing a plywood bow tie with Dundee United on it?" |
