As I seem to be the bringer of sad tidings recently, I have to say this is typed through many tears.
My first hero, Jimmy Greaves. The greatest goalscorer of all time. Nobody ever, was as cool as he was in front of goal. When I was a kid, he always seemed to score for England and it must have been so hard for him, to have missed out in the World Cup Final of 1966. Got injured in one of the early games and well....the rest is history. I often wondered if that was the trigger for his later alcoholism. It must have played no small part. But he finally beat it and went on to a wonderful few years on ITV with The Saint and some TV critic spots on breakfast telly.
But life had one more cruel twist for him, as we know, so at last, his soul is free of his broken body.
Thanks for the memories, Jim. _________________ life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans |

Really sad to hear this news last weekend.
The many tributes to Jimmy were lovely.
A true footballing legend. x |
