This is just a scream to express my despair that Chris Evans is STILL presenting Drivetime and that I STILL can't listen to him. Please BBC replace him with someone, like Stuart Maconie or even Mark Radcliffe or indeed anyone, that I enjoy lisening to. I still miss being able to listen to the programme. |

You're not alone. Since the ginger whinger has turned 'Drivetime' into Driveltime, I've got used to listening to 6 music. If you have a DAB radio I'd recommend it. Nemone & Steve Lamacq are great alternatives to both Steve Wright & 'Driveltime'. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I'm enjoying Drivetime. I suppose you cant please everybody but its better to please some rather than just employing bland personality free presenters like some have suggested. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

No - so they'll employ self-opinionated, self-obsessed idiots instead.

If you listend then perhaps you would realise how much Chris has improved over the last few months.
Sometimes I find him a bit much but in general I happen to think he is very good so I hope he stays. |

Yippee! an Evans thread
I listen once a week, and it rarely lasts more than 10mins. But I have to, I need to keep in touch with what is wrong with Radio 2, have an informed opinion.
The show is only 1 year old and already sounds stale because it's just like the Evan TV Toothbrush rubbish from years ago.

Johnny was great at drivetime, really miss the 'who are you' quiz - I alway's used to think "this is madness, it's blatenly obvious who that is.." only to be proved completely wrong!!
Like you,John - I try to listen every few weeks but then lunge for the 'off' switch. Evans, please stop shouting. Thinking on that, just please stop!! _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |

Well I would respectfully suggest you listen to the entire show. This 10 minute dip in thing is just sufficent to have an ill-informed opinion.
How can the show be stale when many of the features of the show have changed and/or evolved over the year? Please compare that with Steve Wright or even Sir Terry where basically nothing has changed in 10 years? _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Im not saying he's perfect before somebody accusing me of that, but his show has come a long way. They have dropped a lot of the interactivity quite quietly when it became apparent thar it was just generating Allinsoneque responses. They celeb spot is gone. These days he is more focussed on lifestyle, food and associated issues. And the Friday show is the perfect start to the weekend (when I get out of work early enough to hear it) _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I know you didn't say he was stale I was referring to the previous poster who said he was.
It amazes me that someone can think they have a good idea of what Chris' show is about by listening for only 10 minutes
As I said I think he has settled into the drivetime slot very well and his show has improved at lot. |

ern,
I might only do 10 minute bits with Evans bit it's always at different times and I can't enjoy any of it.
These lifestyle spots, getting the expert or consultant on the phone, they just never work for me, Evans' questioning goes off on tangents and we end up hearing, and going away with, more of Evans' opinions rather than the consultant's statements or advice. In the end the show fails to inform listeners suitably.

Has he had a voice transplant? If not - he hasn't changed a bit and is therefore worth avoiding still.

Chris voice is fine. It's about his personality and providing a entertaining show for his millions of listeners who tune in. It's not all about the voice now. |

I thought a presenter's "voice" was supposed to be what conveyed what they had to say to listeners? If the voice gets on a listener's nerves (as Evans' does) then what chance does he have to hold the ear of the listener?
Of course it's all about voice! And Evans' voice gets on my t...... He's a berk!

I'm like John - I listen occasionally to random 10 minute slots and still find I can't get away with his show. The biggest drawback, I feel, is that he appears to feel he needs to shout into the microphone. All the other DJs seem to talk normally. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Anyone who can last 10 minutes of that deserves a medal. The only time I have managed it has been when the ginger whinger is absent, then I can manage a whole show. Otherwise I can't get anywhere near 5 minutes never mind 10! _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

His show obviously divides people into two diametrically opposed camps. We have the odd defector who scrambles over the wall and manages not to get shot by Ella or BB, but they are few and far between.

Ernie, I was just keeping a low profile on this as my views on CE are well known. I do not like dislike CE as a person, I do not know him, however, as a "radio presenter", IMHO, he is the pits. I, like many others on these boards, have tried to listen to him and always come away wondering how on earth someone that produces inane self opinionated drivel, frequently shouted, is on an adult radio station like R2. For me he just does not fit into R2 at all, so I either listen to R4, BBC Radio Lincolnshire or Lincs FM, in the car, or Planet Rock, Classic FM or The Jazz, if at home. If you want to listen to him, you are welcome, you can't please all of the people all of the time; thankfully there is plenty of diverse and eclectic quality adult radio for us all on R2.

Like thers, I do not despise Mr Evans, I just find him 'wrong' for that slot in the day. Normally, I am only available to listen to him from 5 to 6. Like others, I dip in occasionally (usually when even my tolerance for Humberside has evaporated) as I cannot comment on what I do not listen to. He may have quietened a shade but in my opinion it is still tabloid radio. I will continue to listen occasionally, but I do not expect any improvement. The Friday request show is good music interupted by an idiot (and the person he speaks to on the 'phone). _________________ Geddon

That about sums my opinion up too, as I've previously said, I've found refuge in 6 music. I'm coming to the conclusion that our Ernie is one of the following
1) Runs Evans' fan club or is at least one of the leading lights.
2) Member / ex member of his 'posse'.
3) Evans himself! _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

We all used to be Drivetime listeners - was what we used to have on when I got in from school, and we'd listen to it while making tea and at the table
It clashes with uni stuff now so I don't notice so much
although when Walker first got replaced I was shocked and not a happy bunny.
Good on you for starting up this thread - I just wish the beeb would listen. |

Since I still haven't managed to listen to more 10 minutes at a time the content may, as Ernie says, have improved, although I'm sure I remember that CE fans proclaimed it was perfect from the beginning. Even so, unless Chris has changed his voice and presentational style then I'll continue to find the show impossible to listen to. I'm surprised that no-one has suggested vocal coaching for him. |

I'm loving it..... Chris' style is, overtly intimate....listening to the show, reminds me of the cosy evenings-in with my family when I was young; me and six older brothers with my parents and the two dogs, all making entertainment out of nothing....... no telly back then.
Oddly and what seems out of step with the rest of the world, I don't like the All Request Friday Show that much.....maybe it's because on Fridays I'm already at home , long before the show starts....... still good though ... just not as........ |

I still haven't managed to listen to as much as one second of Drivetime since the current presenter took over.
I have discovered so much more though so I do owe Radio 2 for that.

____________________________________________________________
But that is just my point.I can't comment on it because I haven't listened .I can't say what good or bad points there are about the show. All I know is that, based on previous experience , I cannot stand the presenter, so instead of wasting time listening to something I know I am not going to like then going on forums and complaining about it,as many people seem to have done, then I just take the easy option and don't listen in the first place.
Truth be known, if it was not for the Dawn Patrol and SOTS I probably would not listen to Radio 2 at all most weeks these days.Lately I am spending most of my time listening to thejazz.
But that of course is my personal choice.Others make the choice to listen to the current presenter of Drivetime and good luck to them, they enjoy it and that's fine by me.
All I am saying is I enjoy the alternatives that are available.
