Talk about dumbing down. The Vine show now making serious meat out of the pointless subject 'Which vehicle would you vote off the road?'
JY's loving this I'm sure! What was once a serious news prog is fast turning into a clone of The Danny Baker Show!

I was thinking the same thing myself. Also don't you remember a few weeks back one of the topics was "did you ever catch your parents having sex"
I don't dislike JV as a person but I can't listen to his show much anymore. |

I've written to the Producer saying how I think this whole thing (which has been hyped across other BBC media channels, in case you haven't noticed) is the cheapest, most cynical use of a national radio network I've seen in a long time. Talking about dumbing down the media!
If Jimmy Young is listening to it I can't imagine what he's thinking.
This is truly c-rap, Jezza, me ol' son.

Interestingly Danny Baker is currently doing a canter on listeners stories from beyond the "Iron Curtain" or the "Bamboo Curtain"
Hugely entertaining and facinating some of them, and oddly and arguably of more political worth and substance than Vine's meaningless 'vote a vehicle off the road' nonsense!
Who'd have thought we'd live so long?

Jimmy is probably thinking he was right to leave if this is the best they can offer. I miss JY, at least he talked about things that mattered.

"There's only one way to find out... FIGHT!"
Seriously though, imagine if Vine did the 'vote a vehicle off the road' thing on Panorama?!
So, why is it acceptable for R2?!
This is doing his 'alleged' reputation as a serious news man no favours whatsoever and the fact he's willing to entertain such low-brow inconsequentialities makes me question the need to have him, or indeed this show on R2 anymore.
I love the way the trail for the topic made it out to be some big political heavyweight debate! It doesn't matter what any of us think you morons. NOTHING could or even should be done about it! So what's the bloody point?! _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |

I well recall an interview with JV where he said his show was much more hard news than JY was, and mentioned they don't do recipes any more - neglecting to mention that JY dropped the recipes in the early 80s! _________________ "....you're wearing a plywood bow tie with Dundee United on it?" |

At least it's a little more worthy than other Vine campaigns like, "greatest opening lines of a song" and "best Cliff Richard record ever"
I don't bother with the show any more. For a more intelligent look at life, culture and politics, I switch to Round The Horne on BBC7... |

Small point. The money that's being made on the calls for this pointless exercise. Where's it going? Anyone know? Calls cost 15p apparently and they've had 18,000 so far.... Anyone good at maths?! _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |

Where do I cast my vote Lady B ?
I have just listened to the opening of JV's show and the four categories of vehicle nominated. Guess what ! 4x4s, lorries and caravans are there ! Amazing ! Let the nation speak now with one voice and blah blah blah......
I am amazed he and his team are not embarrassed broadcasting this drivel. I listened to the case against 4x4s during the week and some loony was spouting factually inaccurate nonsense. 4x4s take up 3 parking spaces etc etc. Naturally this went unchallenged by JV............
I think I am turning into Victor Meldrew 30 years too early

£2700 so far then; will it not be going towards paying Sir Terry's Children in Need fee ? |
