Preferably some obscure sticksville radio station out there in "yes-indeedy-land". He was appalling when depping for JW a few years back.

Yes, Ella, I agree - rather stilted, totally different from how I remember him on R1 all those years ago from Perkins Grange at Dingly Dell.... _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

A little unfair, though - he was plunged straight into a high-profile show after twenty-odd years away from radio. They should have broken him in gently, like they did with Chr*s *v*ns by giving him the occasional off-peak cover gig to find his feet.
Actually, I thought Noel did OK! _________________ "....you're wearing a plywood bow tie with Dundee United on it?" |

I enjoyed Noel's stint as well and would like to see him to return.
He's got a good radio voice. Can't honestly see that happening though.
DLT too, excellent character but can't see that either...
Strange there isn't a day time female presenter up for the job? |

Hello mcl,
My apologies if it sounded as though I was having a go at him - I wasn't, it just didn't sound like him. I guess I was expecting more of what I remembered, and hadn't allowed for the gap or the fact that he was parachuted in. And yes, he did okay given the circumstances, and I kept listening each evening. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Strange there hasn't been a daytime female presenter on R2 for a long time, Unless you count Sarah Kennedy on Dawn Patrol which becomes a daytime spot in Spring & Summer. Last one I remember was Janice Long when she had a spell on Saturday afternoons before Richard Allinson took it over. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Radio One do it, so I think R2 should? Give Russell Brand to R1 as they keep asking for him on their MB, and bring across Jo W? |

And my apologies if it sounded like I was having a go at you - nothing nasty intended, I promise! I completely understand where you're coming from, and I think if Noel was given a bit more time to find his feet, and was worked into the schedule gradually he might have been a bit more successful.
By the sound of it, those of us who like Edmonds on drivetime were very much in a minority, anyway! _________________ "....you're wearing a plywood bow tie with Dundee United on it?" |

Well Noel is the one guy who never loses on that show. It was the same thing with Milionaire: it made Chris Tarrant a few £m's for himself. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

As I posted the original thread here I should of couse said Richard Allinson as I guess he is not considered a major part of BBC Radio 2 any longer/currently.
My second choice after Richard is still Annie Nightingale-sorry should have been clearer "in my allegiances" in the first place. |
