I got up to get ready for an early start at work, and as I was making a cup of tea to take upstairs to the missus I switched on Capital Radio to hear news of the unthinkable. John Lennon had been shot.
I took the tea upstairs, and what I told the wife awoke her immediately. Like me, she loved Lennon's music and we played his and Yoko's latest album "Double Fantasy" all the time.
"Is he OK?"
"He's dead!"
They say people remember where they were and what they were doing when Kennedy was shot, which is true for me, but it seems like only yesterday that I heard that awful news on Capital Radio on December 8th, 1980.
The song "In My Life" has always assumed a certain poignancy for me since that awful day. |

I remember it well. I think the following Sunday there was a call for 1 minute silence. I walked round the block. _________________ -

I was getting ready for school at the time (I was 12) and me and my parents heard it on the radio.
I didn't really know much about his music at that time but I have found out and appreciated it a lot more since 1980. |

Was on day off and lying in bed and heard it on probably the 8 am news on Radio 1. Was going to the hairdressers and can remember the radio being on in there and just feeling numb.

I'd moved into the very first house of my own the day before and remember getting up early and not being able to get the central heating boiler to work - then I heard the news on the radio and decided that there were far more important events in life than being without central heating ( _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Well, like everybody else I was about to go to work when I heard the news on Capital Radio or Radio One. My colleagues and I spent much of the day agreeing how much, as children of the 60s, a new Beatles song would mark a stage of our lives. And Lennon was probably the driving force behind the group. |
