So we all suspect that there is some major change to the weekday schedule coming soon with rumours of Terry retiring and Evans possibly replacing him.
The clues:
- The message boards being closed to listeners comments on shows & scheduling
- Evans cryptic comments on 22/12 about staying on Drivetime until at least the end of March
- Wogan's newreading posse being taken off travel duties from the end of February
- Richard Allinson finishing up on Sundays on Radio Oxford
- The hastily introduced Saturday night Russell Brand show. We all suspect that it wont stay there for long in that slot

If you are thinking about Russell moving to a weekday slot, you are mad not paranoid |

Terry for GMTV! yes I'm joking.
It definately looks like something major is going to happen in the radio 2 spring clean.
Maybe
Dawn Patrol with Steve Wright (love the show )
Wake up and turn the radio off cos Russell Brand is doing breakfast.
Ken Bruce steadfastly stays where he is having glued himself to his studio chair.
Current affairs phone in with Chris Evans
Sarah Kennedy in the afternoon.
Drive time with Alan Titchmarsh including gardening tips.
What do you mean I'm being silly? |

I was thinking more of Russell Brand replacing Ross if he gets a daytime show. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I've frequently heard the trailer/jingle 'Wake Up With Wogan, Go Home With Chris Evans' ......... so seems like R2 are trying to get TOGS to listen to, and, get used to Evans ............... before the change.
To be honest it wouldn't bother me as I don't regularly listen to either slot nowadays.

That would be disastrous..... how can life get to be this bad...
Then again, they said on the news this morning that huge areas of our oceans are becoming devoid of all life due to Global Warming... so maybe I could live with it.. |

I do agree something's stirring, but we could just be being paranoid - it might simply be that contract renewals come round every Spring.
I think the old R2 messageboards were closed to keep costs down, and to stop all criticism. I don't think they're bothered what criticism, just any that happens. Interestingly, David Puttnam was saying the other day that the worst thing about the BBC has always been it's inability to take criticism.

No, I don't expect it to stay and can easily see Brand doing Saturday mornings. He's dropped out of Big Brother's Big Mouth and all his other TV shows have been cancelled. The tour did well, but that was until the teenage girls went along and discovered he's not funny...
But I think the hasty move to Saturday was more to do with the BBC trying to keep him there and then, than any long-term plans. |

I remember sometime last year a member on the old R2 MB did say 'Mark Radcliffe was going to take over breakfast on R2 when the time comes? I can't remember who it was? |

If Wogan is going then bring in Allinson, replace Wright with Danny Baker and Evans with Racliffe or Marconni. If you're going to sweep things use a good broom! |

Heard Dale W say his show was from 2.30pm next week for 2 hours. Maybe the EP show is being squeezed out (not a problem for me) _________________ Over the hill they came....the greatest Army in the World.....The Tartan Army |

As mentioned in another thread Richard did say on his last show over the last Christmas break on Radio 2 he was suited and booted as he had an important career meeting with the bosses on Radio 2 after the show.
At the time it struck me as a serious meeting for him-there was a serious undertone to his comments.
Maybe Richard is going to return to Radio 2 with a permanent show in the schedules. |

That just means EP's show will be back to it's normal length (90 mins). |

Ernie, I think this would be a good time for you to remind your mate just what being Sir Terry's replacement would entail before it's too late, after all it has got him the sack twice in the not too distant past!
Hopefully you are right about Russell Brand full stop. (note edited quote!)
I think we have good reason to be paranoid at the moment! |

Whilst I would agree with replacing Wright & Evans, I'm afraid that replacing anyone with Baker is my idea of a bad broom (asking for my money back even!) After all, these are the reasons I stopped listening to R1. I am not ready for R3 or R4 yet! |

I'm afraid I fear the worst is about to happen. Evans in the morning I shudder to think what it will be like.

I'd suggest, fast talking, kids, phone ins, texts, blogs, games, shouting, breakfast menus, I'm this, I'm that etc.
Mind you, the evening's could brighten up! |

Yes I think I could cope without music at breakfast as long as I could listen in the evenings.

Me too. I like to record SOTS and listen to that (more than once) whilst getting ready for the day, although I don't mind Wogan & co.
I'm quite getting into The Jazz in the evenings lately, but I reckon Stuart or Mark R. would lure me back to Drivetime. |

I think you have hit the nail right slap bang on the head there Santa, I am into Planet Rock, Classic FM or The Jazz, if I am at home and can use my DAB radio. Otherwise its R4 or BBC Radio Lincolnshire. So bring on SM, Radders or RA for an adult Drivetime.

I'm sure it won't be long before that idiot Evans is in the breakfast chair - and I also think that Brand will be in the drivetime chair. And I'll dump R2 altogether. With the controller and senior management showing such contempt for their listeners there's no alternative to give up on the station altogether!

I honestly think that Mr brand is destined for R1. I think the PTB have "tested him out" on R2 Saturday nights as they don't think many are listening. I expect you are right that CE is being lined up for the breakfast slot but I think Drivetime is wide open. Sounds more like a 'Thanks mate, but we're going to let you go - you can have a show on a BBC local if you keep your gob shut' interview to me. I don't think there's really a place for Allinson in the modern R2, at least not during daytime - he may be a perfectly competent broadcaster but he's not a 'name'....you even have to be a celeb just to get a stand-in gig these days, alas.
As for Evans - surely no controller with all his/her marbles intact would give him another breakfast gig? I know he's supposedly mellowed and everything, but come on!! Anyone else who behaved like Evans did would never have been allowed near a radio studio again - I don't know how he does it. _________________ "....you're wearing a plywood bow tie with Dundee United on it?" |

Another thought...If Sir Tel leaves breakfast maybe he won't go all together. Maybe he could have a pre-recorded slot (at the weekend) and take all the TOGs with him (Sat lunchtime or teatime). I'm sure he would be happy to be still part of R2 but with all the hassle of the early morning commute removed.

It's a quote from a Danny Baker phone-in - the transcript is here, and for some reason the sheer ridiculousness of it all had me in hysterics!

No. I'm afraid the week 14/2nd quarter schedules have yet to be released to us media types, which is a little odd at this late stage, but to me points towards big moves being held back till the 11th hour, perhaps to minimise Evans-esq uproar and schism! _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |

Week 14 is Saturday 31st March - Friday 6th April
It could simply be that Easter holiday cover hasn't been arranged yet, although as it's a year since Evans started the timing is curious. |
