I was thinking that are they, or should I re-phrase that? |

Mark..the Comedy Hour is now used by thePolice to interrogate suspects.
One hardened criminal actually lasted 14 minutes before he cried

I just don't listen to it anymore. I occasionally listened to the Arthur Smith Lectures but even those got tiring after a while.
If I want radio comedy, I'd rather listen again to "I'm Sorry, I Haven't A Clue" on R4 or "Fighting Talk" on 5Live. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

I still miss the News Huddlines but it does not look like that is coming back anytime soon.
I don't listen to the so called comedy hour now but judging by the number of negative cpmments it gets I think that this could be something that Radio 2 could justifiably look at stopping.
More justifiable for instance than stopping YHBT or MFY which still drew an appreciative audience.
Sad to say though that apart from the odd episode of ISIHAC on R4, the best radio comedy I am fin ding is now on BBC 7 in the form of programmes like The Clitheroe Kid and The Men From The Ministry.
The Clitheroe Kid may appear dated now and perhaps not all that funny to some, but it ran on the Light Programme and subsequently on Radio 2 from 1958-1972 and in my view dates from a time when the station knew how to do comedy. It was clean,it was well written, it was hugely popular.
I wonder if the present day Comedy Hour programmes will be being repeated on BBC7 os some similar outlet when they are 40 years old?
More likely that 80 year old Clitheroe Kid episodes will still be appearing if you ask me!

The 'comedy' hour is absolutely terrible it's not even remotely funny. |

Mark, in your opening message you say the jokes are "old and bad" but now you say you want Adrian Juste back??? That makes no sense - his entire show was old clips linked by bad old jokes!
As it is, Arthur Smith pretty much does Juste's job (but better) - with varied clips (new and old) linked by a few groaners but a fair bit of new material. A song by Ronnie Golden yesterday was done specially for the show and was quite witty.
And then Parsons & Naylors Pull-Out Section had a few good laughs too. I assume they've revived this show because of stuff like The Powder Room and Out To Lunch being so bad, and it certainly shows them up. Lots of one-liners, and some really cutting satire too.
I'd be interested to know which "old jokes" you heard Mark because I didn't hear any? |

I certainly miss the comedy hour of old, but then I love satire (which you got on News Huddlines) and which is sadly missing nowadays. I like either complete comedy shows or sketches, not comedy clips with interruptions which do nothing for me at all. |

I am with Mark O here (for a change!!).
I enjoyed listening to Adrian Juste on a Saturday afternoon-if my memory is correct was his show not on just before the Saturday afternoon rock show with Alan Freeman. |

For me the "Comedy Hour" on Saturdays is the only thing I just cannot listen to on R2 (oh yes and O'Kermit) . As I say "there's a time and a place" and it just does not work in that slot.
I do like Stuart M though.. so on Sat pm timing is everything _________________ Over the hill they came....the greatest Army in the World.....The Tartan Army |

I agree and disagree. The problem with the comedy hour is that many of the shows commissioned are just not funny. Thankfully we have a couple of decent ones at the moment.
Good:-
Parsons and Nailor
It's been a bad week
Jammin
Arthur Smith Lectures
The News Huddlines (now cancelled)
Passable:-
The Day the Music Died
Bad:-
Jeff Green
Lee Mack
Teenage Kicks
Flight of the Conchords
Radio Rivron |

The Day The Music Died is back in the Summer (wiithout Robin Ince), but no news on any more Bad Weeks (though Punt & Dennis were at the R2 Christmas Dinner, as discussed with Mark Radcliffe yesterday). |
