Played with Booker T and the MGs, Stax records, Blues Brothers, Neil Young, Jerry Lee Lewis, Wilson Picket, Sam & Dave, Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Tom Petty, Creedance Clearwater Revival, Rod Stewart, Bob Dylan, and loads more.
You will have heard him more times than you realise! |

That's a real shame. He was a fabulous musician and - as you say - audible in more places than is immediately apparent.
I saw him playing behind Eric Clapton at one of his infamous Royal Albert Hall gigs in the 90s and it was a joy to watch and listen to his bass playing. He had such an unassuming presence on stage and his playing was often mellow and well-rounded (his fingers would glide over the frets) and yet he managed to lay down such a punchy underbelly for the rest of the band. I don't think there's any doubt that the sound we know as The Stax Sound would be very different without Duck's contribution on bass.
Something of a cliche, I know, but this really is "a sad loss" to music. |
