Couldn't believe my ears this afternoon when SW accused Dim Smith of having a massive ego about a factoid Dim had read out last week!
Truly, Steve (SuperEgo) Wright has no shame.... Hello Pot, Mr Kettle here! _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! |

And before anyone says Wrighty was being ironic.... He wouldn't know or understand irony if it jumped up and punched him on his not-inconsiderable schnozz! _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! |

But more people are listening to him than ever before. They cant all be tuning in for the ironic qualities of the worlds most self important show. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Maybe they're just tuning in to check how indescribibly naff it is. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

I don't believe that people stay tuned (or, worse still, tune in) to Steve Wright In The Afternoon (ugh) intentionally.

Er - <checks to see no-one's listening> - I did, last Friday - but honest, just to see exactly how excruciatingly awful it still is. I lasted about three minutes before my suspicions were confirmed and before my brain decided to shut down completely. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Must admit my astonishment that Wrong has increased his audience!! His show is so anachronistic he makes David Jacobs look hip! For goodness sake what is wrong with people who like his "style"? Frontal lobotomies must be on the up! _________________ MiS |

The fact he's now got a record audience (and the boost to his ego that gives him) is probably the most depressing news all year. |

As if he weren't smug enough already
I have to say I question the validity of these audience figures: though it's heartening to read that the Evans bubble has burst (if indeed there ever was a bubble) can there really be millions of people that CHOOSE to listen to Wrong??? _________________ MiS |

Ken and Steve have roughly the same figures, so we can assume that people have Radio 2 on at work all day (and go out at lunch leading to a dip in Jeremy's figures) so it's not Steve that's the hit, it's the station.
At least that's what I like to tell myself! |

He means Evans figures are about 2m less than Steve Wright.
But as I said above, I don't think that's a reflection of quality - just that people leave work and there's a natural drop off. |

erm..........and also that whilst Stevie "golden boy" Wrighties figures went up 350k, .... that's UP 350k, Evans', "I'm the future of Radio 2", has dropped by 50k!
Down Down, Baby I'm Down.....
Oh, and I'd have thought the people dropping off in the afternoon, would have boosted the Driptime figures driving home..... still, maybe he hasn't bedded in yet.

The reason why CE's listening figures drop off is not because people are leaving work. People can get in their cars, vans or whatever and tune into CE if they want to. Myself and 49,999 others, apparently, choose to retune or put a CD on. |

Err, yes it is because they're leaving work. Because, as you say, they can get into their cars and listen to what they want. At that point Radio 2 no longer has a captive audience. |

So do you think SW pays back-handers to employers all over the country? _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

I've noticed that most places I stumble into don't have Radio 2 on, usually some local station.....can't think why that would be. |

At my place, we had a falling out with the ILR so my boss declared we weren't allowed to listen to it! So, Radio 2 got most use (depending on negotiations that day).
Now I have my own office and can listen to whatever I like - so no Wrighty! |
