Does this name sound familiar to anyone? It's been nagging at me for a while.
I read a book about 40 years ago and there was a mysterious character in it with that name. Another character traced the name on some object with her finger and slowly pronounced it “Her-Me-Own Hyslop”. The only other thing I can remember is an old house with a very overgrown garden with weeds coming up between the paving stones.
It's strange how these odd memories stick with one. |

It must be 30 or more years ago that my husband and I saw a book outside a secondhand shop, which had the title: "Miss Kilmansegg and her precious leg".
We always regretted not buying it.
I just googled it and apparently it's "A Golden Legend" by Thomas Hood.
