And it's very bad management that allows it to happen.
Oh, hang on, haven't we been here before? |

It’s no biggy. So a few of the presenters had a week off at the same time. So what. Did we still get music? Yes! Did we still get chat? Yes! Did we still get news and travel? Yes! Was it on 24 hours? Yes! Was I on holiday too? Yes! I better stop there otherwise I’ll have an orgasm. Life can't be so bad if you have time to moan about who is presenting a radio show. |

Some people aren't happy unless they're moaning.
Perhaps that's their orgasm. _________________ Ron |

I think that's a different kind of moan though, Ron, more of Mmmmmmmmmmmmm then nibble his ear kind of moan. |

Moaning is a perfectly natural part of human behaviour just as being happy is
There's nothing wrong with moaning if the circumstances justify it so long as people also praise things when praise is justified which I think most people here do

Oh dear Oh dear
When I started this thread the week had not been good on radio 2....at least for me. I stated what I felt and thought And I said the reason why I felt that way and I thought there were like minded people around to discuss the matter.
On the whole there have been positive comments but I feel now there are a few people prepared to accept the dumbing down of Radio 2.
It is the management to are out of touch with the masses. Yes, I know people would like to be with their children during the school holidays, BUT ALL the presenters at one time? Could this not have been staggered over the week? Yes there was a presenter, yes there was music, and to a poor standard, as I felt. In a private company staff have to compromise and work as a team.....I don't see that happening in the BBC
This.......I put down to BAD management, not thinking paper pushing managers who have let the presenters word their own contracts without thinking the BBC should be a service to the public...who pay THEIR wages, not the staff
We have to pay a licence fee and I am entitled to my opiinion and I felt that week reached an all time low _________________ I like hedgehog crisps |

Lynn Parsons has two children the youngest aged six yet she has quite happily covered for three hours every morning on Smooth for the last three weeks as well as her usual eight hours at the weekend plus on top of that on Radio 2 two hours covering Zoe Ball last Saturday and three hours covering Alex Lester one day
If she can manage it I'm sure others could at least make a greater effort _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I'm glad you said that, H, it's a long time since a bloke could get away with it!
It's natural for working parents to want to spend time with their children when they're off school. Broadcasters are lucky because there is a large pool of people willing and able to deputise.
None of the people chosen to fill-in last week are exactly unknown or inexperienced in the role. Different voices and personalities yes - I'm not going to comment on individuals or whether I actually like them - but problem, no. _________________ Ron |

All the more surprising, therefore, that he who shall be known as "the controller" chose such awful quality substitutes when there's so much good radio broadcasting talent out there. |

Exactly! Looking back I can honestly say my father was never at home when I had half term.
Do we make too much of half term anyway? I'd say yes as it's a moneymaker for all the service industries.

Hmmm. Some people are like radiators, you can bask in the warmth of their personality, you feel uplifted, others are like a Mk7 Graco pump, they suck the life and the fun out of everything- I try to stay away from those people, sometimes though, they just need telling.
I look forward these discussions on here because they act to balance up the nice and pleasant things that come to me in other parts of my life. |

Oh come on Rachel you know you love coming on here - I bet you couldn't resist even if you wanted to
We're all doing you a big favour anyway because we have to get you used to the fact that life is not always one long happy experience though I'm pleased for you that yours apparently is for most of the time
Often when people are in a constant state of happiness or euphoria and suddenly something comes along and bites them in them in the backside they just can't handle it
Being happy all the time is equally abnormal as being depressed constantly
There's a halfway house between the two and I think most people are there or thereabouts _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Can you really have too much of a good thing?
Too much misanthropy is certainly bad for you, and my point has always been that not only is there too much of it here but that it's repetitive, and it has become as depressing as it is predictable. Anyone coming to read this board for the first time probably would conclude that most people are constantly miserable and depressed, and any impact our opinions might have had upon anyone from the BBC who reads it has long since withered away - same old, same old.
On the scale of things to get worried and moan about in the world, Radio 2, its presenters and those who deputise on their hols is well down, probably ranking on a par with Nestlé removing Montélimars from Black Magic.
All of which makes me really happy to see and hear anyone who is or sounds bright and happy, friends or strangers, on the radio, on here, or in the world outside. Let's just lighten up a bit. _________________ Ron |

Of course one can have too much of a good thing Ron
If we all ate lobster every day washed down with vintage champagne I'll guarantee we'd be thoroughly fed up after a week or so
It's like when people have millions of pounds they often completely lose touch with the value of money and the value of having everyday items because they can buy quite literally whatever they like and so the whole thing becomes meaningless and there's nothing for them to look forward to any more
Translating that back to the original point people have to experience some negative thoughts and experiences in life in order to appreciate the positive ones and often expressing their dissatisfaction over particular issues can be theraputic
As the saying goes it's often good to get it off your chest _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Yeah, well, all I mean is that little positivity wouldn't go amiss, and don't jump on people when they display it. _________________ Ron |

To be fair, the actual thread title is: "The end of another sad radio 2 week", so the generally negative posts contained herein are justified.
Those specifically looking to avoid "negativity" would be better off avoiding such a thread, would they not? |

Ron, you just don't seem to get the point
The reason none of us listened to Radio 2 last week was because we were all hacked off (though I could use a stronger word) with the garbage on offer
We've all heard these people before so we don't need to listen to have a repeat of what we've already suffered before, we know how bad things are
What is so hard to understand about that _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Ah yes, very good point, Colin, BUT if there were no positive retorts then the thread would die a sad and lonely death: three or four mutual back slapping negative posts would lie there rotting like corpses in the desert sun, the flesh being taken by scavenging night prowling mammals, the remainder left to the maggots until only a few sun-bleached bones remain proud of the wind sculpted sands of time. So in a way, we positive folk breathe a little life into your doomed negativity, in the hope that you will see the error of your ways, and save yourself before it’s too late. |

All this kissing going on....what have I missed!! ? Clearly not enough work being done! you will be banned for flirting!!
On a positive note Mark's become really good at it hasn't he?!! and I don't mean the kissing!!
I don't believe their contracts say I'm having half term off and all the school holidays, they are contracted for ex number of weeks and like anyone else it is up to the "contractor" to negotiate with them when they work those weeks. Holidays should be booked on a first come first served basis end of. Limited to a maximum of regular two presenters off in any one week, preferably one.
Although I think most of us are agreed that 70% of the current presenters we would quite happily see on one very long holiday i.e. never ending ...maybe that's the answer? |
