Greetings pop pickers!
Don't forget that Radio 2 are giving us two treats on Sunday. At 3.30pm there will be a Pick of the Pops show from 1998 as hosted by Fluff. Then at 10pm catch a documentary on the legend himself.
Not 'arf! |

Scotty...don't let it worry you!!!!
Yes Sunday will be a poignant day with both shows being on but both are well worth a listen.
Still hard to believe it's him but not live. |

Shame they didn't have an Alan Freeman tribute night this Sunday. They could have started off with the documentary at 7pm, a recording of Pick of the Pops at 8.30pm and a special Saturday Rock Show selection at 10pm - midnight.
I shall be listening this Sunday, though, but only to the Fluff stuff of course! |

Yep, don't usually listen to R2 on a Sunday but will definitely make an exception this weekend - "Not 'Arf!"

What a nice tribute to Fluff, and very interesting him talking about his career. |

Yes, liked his comments:
"If you can't think of something worthwhile to say, shut up and play the next record..." Some of the current crop could take note from a master.
"When Alan Freeman's on, *no-one* goes to bed" (in response to an 'order' to play 'soft, soothing ballads' between 2340 and 0000 hours because people were going to bed)
Classic stuff.

Ooh, I did laugh at that!
Boss: "You CANNOT say Alan Freeman says Pop to Bed on the radio!"
Fluff: "But you're the one who came up with the title of the show."
Alan could be quite cantakerous when somebody pissed him off (which was usually one of the station bosses).

He confessed to not being able to ad-lib but had a 'natural rhythym' when doing the chart rundown. Truly a great professional - he knew his limitations and played to his strengths.

He seemed quite insecure though as well. Kept thinking he was going to be fired and that he would have to go back to Australia. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Alan Freeman had no idea just how much the public loved him and he couldn't understand why he was such a legend. I think Tony Blackburn would do a very good job on Pick of the Pops, possibly in a similar style as Fluff. Maybe he should be considered for the show? Stale Stiltern is rubbish.
Occasionally, Russell Davies makes a dig at Dale! He once said "And now from everything sharp to everything orange".
I assume Russell Davies was talking about Dale's fake tan! |

On a related note, I think Bob Harris had a dig at RB's waffle the other week (second week of RB's show) when he said "enough of the meaningless babble, on with the music" (or words to that effect). Class.

Loads of the presenters dig at each other! Janice Long often digs at David Jacobs:
"What a difference three minutes make. Normal service has resumed." |

Great to hear POTP yesterday!
Why can't they play old "Fluff" shows each week instead on the Tango man... |
