Having missed most of SOTS this morning, I am now listening again, however, SOTS is not listed in the Listen again window, either in the A-Z of all shows or the Classic Pop section. You either have to go via Radio Presenters & Shows, or Radio 2 Music Club and Rock & Pop heading, on the R2 home page. Is this why SOTS has slipped out of the top 5 most listened to again shows?

BB,
Can't see what your problem is
SOTS is listed on this page
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/
scroll down and that music symbol next to each show is the Playlist which you can click and look at first, then click Listen Again.

Hi John,
You're right in saying it's there, but it seems strange that it's the only current show not to be listed on the dedicated Listen Again page. Presumably it's an oversight on the BBC's part and nothing more sinister. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

The problem is John that unlike all other shows you have to go looking, you can't just click on listen again and then the SOTS entry, and its not the first time, this has happened before with SOTS. It seems strange that as its not as simple to access SOTS, it falls out of the top 5 listened to a gain shows, I don't believe in coincidences. Besides just because you don't use that route, does not mean that other people don't.

I do see what you mean, that's why I put a smiley.
SO70s is listed in the classic pop/rock section. SOTS should be there too.
There is something perverse with Radio 2 neglecting specialist shows. They only regularly trail shows with millions of listeners, or new ones. The shows with dwindling audiences are left to fade away. It's always the same name and/or photos on the R2 page:
TERRY WOGAN
STEVE WRIGHT
JEREMY VINE
JOHNNIE WALKER
CHRIS EVANS
JONATHAN ROSS
DERMOT O'LEARY
KEN BRUCE
SARAH KENNEDY

If its an oversight, it has happened before, I made an official complaint the last time and was told it was just an oversight in their reply to my emailed complaint, 3 weeks later! I know it is accessable via the R2 home page, as stated in my original post, or how could I be listening again to SOTS.

This is exactly my point John, we have such a diverse choice of excellent specialist shows that auntie just deems unfit for her rcommendation. They should be highlighting the fact that R2 caters for, blues, bigband, light classical, eclectic mixes of 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's music, etc. Yet all they seem to push are the most popular and LD's blue eyed boys. If its our BBC, tell us what hidden treasures R2 has; of course we won't like and listen to them all, but if we are made more aware, we are more likely to listen. I may appear to be complaining, but I love R2 with a passion, its just that the continueous, IMHO, dumbing down and push towards a R1 1/2, is degrading the quality of R2. Phew, thats better rant over!

Why is Stuart Maconie listed twice on listen again? Same show but with two links.
Now if I was a conspiracy theory debunker I would say that:
Stuart Maconie - begins with S
Sounds of the Sixities - begins with S and also
Stuart has been unintentionally duplicated at the expense of SOTS(60's).
Still Radio 2 should fix it.
As regards the Top 5, it fell out because Evans show got more hits in October. I would expect SOTS to go back to no 5 in the next chart for no other reason than drivetime shows dont get usually get high listen again figures in the long run (I wrote another post about it a few days ago with a longer answer) _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Erne,
Johnnie Walker also has 2 entries on the listen again window of all shows & on the classic rock & pop entry, besides that until SOTS was missing it was in the top 5 listened to again shows! Driveltime was not, this was up until this weekend, so I think the top 5 enties are ameneded more frequently than you think & quote. With all the controvesty about CE on to replace JW and LD's reluctance to appear & explain about HBT, I am suspicious.

Hi BB
Just had a look at the 'listen again' main list that you were using as I missed the second hour yesterday and will listen tomorrow.
As you say there are 2 entries for Johnnie Walker on the list, the first one is actually for SOTS although it says 'music for Sundays'. It would appear you have to be detectives to find what you want on there these days!
On afternoon last week they were all playing at double speed! How that happened I've no idea. I emailed someone and it was sorted fairly quickly.

Thanks for the info Helen, I did eventually get there via the R2 Home Page list of A - Z of shows, its a round about way of getting there.

I must admit I tend to use the 'shows page' at the moment for all but the weekday shows that I've missed, as I tend to look at the playlist first.

I emailed yet another complaint yesterday, low and behold, SOTS is now listed on the dedicated listen again window, A-Z of shows & on the classic pop/rock shows; and SOTS is in the top 5 listened again to shows, above CE! I don't think they listen to me, so could be they realised their mistake.
