|

Been using the listen again facility this week to listen to SOTS, JW, Bob Harris Country etc. Have noticed that every day that CE is recommended yet again, guess he must have fell out of the top 5 listened to again shows, bless. Anybody else sick of CE and Driveltime being rammed down their throat, at every opportunity, by auntie.

No. I generally dont go out of my way to get upset by things. I hear a promo for Jeremy Vine every day on the Ken Bruce show. I have no intention of ever listening to Vine and his sensationalist moan-a-thon but I dont let lifes little annoyances get to me. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Since RB was plugged ad nauseam on the R2 website, I've shied away from anything recommended on the home page. In fact, I think his mug has been on permanent display since a couple of weeks before his excuse for a show started.... obviously the ratings aren't that good, otherwise they wouldn't need to keep constantly plugging it - together with the trailer I heard today. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

If you go to the BBC radio mainpage you will find:
Hidden Gems
Pick of the Pops on Radio 2
Anybody want to object to that?

R2's home page at the moment is trailing the Brits, a clip of Norah Jones in concert (rather pleasant), RB's show ( ) and Celtic Connections. Two out of four worth a look, not bad, I suppose. However, I suspect that RB's mug won't shift until either his ratings do or he does, whichever comes first. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Personally I think the following deserve more promotion by Radio 2:
Paul Jones
Bob Harris Country
Suzi Q
Paul Gambacinni
Where a show is listed on the listen again facility has zero effect on which shows I choose to listen to.
I was surprised Drivetime made it to the Top 5. Drivetime shows generally dont because they have a very short shelf life (who wants to hear a preview of a sports match after the result is know). Also the heavy emphasis on travel & business news would be a turn off to many. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I'd add Bob's Saturday show to that list. I never hear/see it advertised. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

IMHO there are lots of terrific shows that deserve to be recommended by auntie, but she just thinks CE is something special, so he gets to be pushed in our faces. What about Mark Radcliffe, his show the other night that had Stuart guesting was brilliant. Nick Barraclough, Mike Harding are definitely worth another listen and SM's Saturday show.

I find the 5 minute chat between Ken and Jeremy much more fun than Jeremy's entire show! |

Ironically, the current trail for RB is a lengthy rant from him complaining that his picture ISN'T on the website! eh? |

If it needs to be excessively plugged, it's got too many holes in it. It is rare to Terry, Ken, Suzi Q on the home page asthey don't need the advertising.
RB's efforts need to be get more play in front of the RAJARs. If one of the controllers pets goes down, who knows what might happen. Alistenable drivetime show perhaps? _________________ Geddon
