Music is good.
I didn't like the interviews about dogs and whoever Sally was talking to. These drivetime interviews never seem relaxed, it's like a rush rush to whatever is next. The whole drivetime format needs changing in my opinion.
Oh no, and now the competition....... |

Its fast paced. Its gives it a sense of urgency & makes it upbeat and fun.
Of course you either like it or you dont, but that's the same for every show. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

My 2 penneth, for what it's worth. I like Evans, but not doing this show. Personally I couldn't give a rats ass about the sport and business news, which seem to dominate proceedings.
You know what I'd do? Give Baker 2-4.30pm doing the kind of surreal fun phone-in stuff he's doing on London, then make Evans Drivetime 4.30-7 with the emphasis on Wright's old stock-in-trade of star guests and comps. NO, absolutely NO dull sport and business news!
If I wanted that I'd listen to 4 or 5Live!!
This achieves many things. Wright's long overdue removal. Baker's long overdue appointment and the revamping of Drive into an exciting big name show. _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew...

That's what I DON'T like, I don't like the fast pace, I don't like the urgency, I don't regard any of it as FUN
If I'm in the car, flying down the M40, crawling on the M6, or sitting at the lights I don't want THAT on my radio. And (like today) if I'm working on web design THAT is not what I want.
Of course there ARE people who love to hear 'urgency' on the radio as they are tearing down the outside lane, or sitting stationary in the outside lane, biting the clutch at the lights, or reading the paper at home with the smell of dinner. Of course there are.......

Oh John, you make me sound like I'm somehow a little deficient for enjoying a little urgency on the radio.

Now now, I didn't say love of radio urgency was deficient
Anyway I switched off R2, not enough Maconie and not enough music. I'm playing Sibelius (currently the avatar) and so far the missus hasn't complained that it's drowning out Home & Away in the lounge.
Sibelius.... how is that darn classical quiz doing |

Its a shame that Chris is not here to do the Marguerite Patten interview. I saw a documentary on her on BBC4 recently; she is a fascinating person with a great attitude to life. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Blimey I tuned in at 5.25pm and heard a different voice. I had a vision of something tragic had happened. I doubt he had done a runner. Stuart was in with Mark Radcliffe last night, I wonder where Stuart lives as it must of been done at short notice.
Chris couldn't make the excuse it's the snow as it's all gone now. I hope he gets a sicknote for this ( Joke ) |

If Chris is sick, he probably rang in like the rest of us(!) this morning - that would have given the bosses plenty of time to find someone - presumably MG was unavailable, but I'm happy to hear SM filling in. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

My only main gripe with CE is he talks too quickly.
even on the news jingle he races far too fast.
where's the fire?
CALM DOWN DEAR.
Stuart does a good job depping but i still feel he is not totally comfortable with the format. _________________ The Voice of reason in a MAD MAD world |

woohoo - got so excited when I heard Steve Wright say - and after 5: Stuart Maconie - I thought he'd got confussed!
Hate the format - Stuart's own Saturday show is better because of this but it was great to hear him on the radio again _________________ I was trying to daydream, but my mind kept wandering. |

The R2 thread got closed after 9 postings for being "off topic". It seems that this IS the only place that such radical views can be aired without incurrung the Wrath of Chris!!!! _________________ Geddon

Pleased to see that Evans is off again, let's hope he's done a runner, and we can have Stuart EVERY day with his own kind of Drivetime, not the Evans format!! _________________ MiS |

I listened to the first hour tonight whilst driving home - he wouldn't be so bad if he wouldn't shout so much. At least that's what it sounds like to me. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

No Helen, it's not, don't worry! I ended up thinking to myself "why does he need to shout when everyone else uses a normal tone?" Do you hear TW or KB shout? No. I lasted an hour out of interest not for CE but to see if it was as described by many on the forum - it was. Sorry, gfloyd, but I did try.... _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”
