You either love him or hate him on Radio 2....
That was the perception looking at the postings on the BBC Shows & Music forum. Two separate factions ranting at each other.
I was opposed to Chris from the start of his Saturday show in Sept 2005, and was appalled when he took over Johnnie Walker's Drivetime slot in April 2006.
Just this week, however, I've been enjoying his shows from people's homes around the country. So, I think now he does have something to offer Radio 2, but I'd prefer if it was NOT at the Drivetime slot.
What do you think of Chris Evans at Radio 2?

His shows this week have been on at the wrong time of the day in my opinion.
It feels like a bit of a party or like the old days of the Big Breakfast TV show. These shows should be listened to with more attention and from start to finish if possible. I cant do that between 5 and 7pm.
I listened again to one show later in the evening, same show but at a later hour, and it sounded much better.
However that said, it is great to see the BBC get away from London and out into the unhip parts of the country where a great number of people live. Fair play to the show for choosing places nobody else would probably go to such as Auchterderran, Castlederg & Sebastapol. To people in places like this, to be in the national spotlight is a rare event and is really appreciated. |

I can take or leave him though I generally don't mind him, I'm not a fan but I don't hate him either.
If he's on when I put the radio on I won't turn over but I don't specifically tune in to hear him. |

I used to love Evans on TFI fridays on TV, and used to watch the odd hour or so when his Virgin show was broadcast live on Sky One, but as a Radio presenter, after 20 minutes or so I just have to switch off. Theres just something that manages to annoy the hell out of me. |

I like Chris Evans but not on Drivetime. I think he should replace Steve Wright and Stuart Maconie or Richard Allinson be considered for Drivetime. |

No way! Evans is just starting to settle in a Drivetime - I think the show's been sounding fantastic lately, and I wouldn't want to see him move anytime soon. |

I think Drivetime needs a more laid-back presenter. Chris Evans would brighten up those bland weekday afternoons between 2-5pm. |

What do I think of Chris Evans on Radio 2?
I would rather watch the Wicked Witch of the West haranguing some poor old dear on The Weakest Link.
And that's what I usually do
One Friday recently in his request strand someone asked him for John Denver's Annie's Song, which isn't the longest piece of music in the world. Even so, he couldn't resist talking over all but 35 seconds of it. _________________ Ron |

I really enjoy Chris Evans' Drivetime shows. I thought this week was pretty good, too. I think it is refreshing, too, that Chris is not trying to be "hip". I didn't get into last nights show, much, tho. Might just have bveen me.
But this was a neat idea. The radio show comming from the homes of people who listen to it |

I can handle him in small doses.
My only real dislike is he talks too fast and it is hard to keep up with him.
When Stuart sits in it is a more relaxed style but overall if the ratings stay as they are i can't see LD changing things yet. |

As Mikeraphone says, I too can only stand CE in small doses. I did listen to part of his show last night whilst doing some re-decorating (I'd have trailed one of the speakers from the computer into the room I was working in to 'Listen Again' to something else but it wouldn't stretch! ), so had to use a 'proper' radio!
There are several presenters I'm not particularly fond of on R2 at the moment, and CE is one of them, but I do listen to them before making my mind up. Truth is, after a short while he alternately irritates and bores me, then makes me cringe. It's about the third or fourth time I've tried listening this year but every time it's the same outcome.
I remember CE doing 'Never Mind The Gravy' on R1 Sunday afternoons a long time ago now and he had the same effect on me then - and I must have been in my 20s then! TFI Friday I could take or leave (he was well suited for the format), but as a Drivetime presenter he doesn't do it for me. Johnnie Walker almost seemed too laid back at times for me but if I had to choose between the two it would have been him. I did listen when Stuart Maconie was sitting in for CE, though - but I'll nail my colours to the mast here and state that I enjoy SM's style of broadcasting, plus his obvious knowledge and lack of 'personality radio' style.
I realise that some people like him and fair enough - but I still wonder how many of the reputed 4.88M listeners are 'captive' (i.e. have no other choice or have him on as background noise) - as I wonder about several other presenters who command similar numbers yet seem to be berated in equal measures.
I don't actually 'hate' CE per se - but I wouldn't listen to him by choice and don't like his style of presentation. I'm sure that plenty of the 4.88M do, though, for various reasons.

Blimey John I thought I'd had a turn around on CE but well done you for even listening.
I think he is ok for Drivetime there may be other presenters we'd prefer like Stuart but end the end of the day Chris is staying certainly for the time being, so either enjoy or re-tune is my motto.

Well I don't propose to spend my whole time on here or on any other forum ranting about him. He isn't my choice of DJ, to my mind he shouldn't have been given any more chances with the BBC. After all, would I be given any more chances with a firm if I had been sacked for the things he got the boot for? I doubt that very much. But, the decision is out of my hands, so as long as he's there I'll be listening elsewhere. It's not just him I'm avoiding, I don't listen to Russell Brand either, and yes, I did try him when he stood in for Mark Radcliffe (a Lesley Douglas signing that I can get on with) It's not just Lesley's signings who I avoid, I don't listen to Jonathan Ross or Steve Wright either. Both of whom were Jim Moir signings. I like DJ's who talk to you rather than shout at you and / or behave in a 'I'm the leader of the gang' manner.

Standard Greetings Guvnor! Yes, third time lucky!
I've seen this message board format on a couple of previous forums, One example being BDG's 'DEBBRA' one so just a case of remembering how the text options work.

Have to agree with what people are saying.
I am very slowly warming to Chris Evans on Radio 2.
I think he is a morning presenter and not an afternoon or drive presenter.
Maybe he could stand in for Terry Wogan?
Then we could have Stuart Maconie on drivetime who I think is the perfect drivetime presenter.

Give Chris Evans a stint on the breakfast show regardless what his critics say. But my preference for that slot is Jonathan Ross. I would like to see Chris Evans replace Steve Wright, with either Simon Mayo or Stuart Maconie taking over Drivetime. |

I think you are all missing the point about Evans. The content of the current show he does (Drivetime) is very different to what he did on Saturday afternoons or on the breakfast shows he hosted previously. I'm not sure he wants to do a breakfast show again and unless he finds a format that works (and not a zoo radio posse ego driven type show) he would flop at breakfast. Zoo radio is dying, only Steve Wright cant see that. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I suppose Moyles does a similar type of show on Radio 1. Entertainment driven show except, Chris plays more music than Moyles? ( Actually Moyles doesn't play music he rants on ) |

If Evans does a show like Moyles, it would be the end of him on Radio 2, as he would be talking down to the people like he did in his latter crazy days at Virgin. If he knows what is good for him he will stay well away from it, as it will kill his career. No more come backs for Evans if he screws up this time. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I can't see (and don't want to see) CE doing the breakfast show on R2. His track record for getting up in the morning speaks volumes, and as gfloyd remarks, any screw ups and its for keeps this time. Lesser of two evils, let him do SW's slot.

From his webpage Quote: | Most radio shows have a team, crew or even a posse. The Geoff Show has a Symposium |
On the show - Great Phone in topics which are really smart and funny. Some of the people who phone in have some amazing and funny stories.
Drunk vs Stoned - A drunk person goes up against a stoned person in a quiz. Sounds like a poor feature but is in fact very funny.
Also if you download the podcast from i-tunes (which is what I do) you get the introduction to the show which is not broadcast.
Also Geoff and his symposium broadcast a podcast party if they get into the top 5 of the i-tunes chart. This is not broadcast and is only available to those who are signed up to the podcast.
Check it out. When you get Geoff's humour it will become a must listen to show.

The first topic to get to a second page and it's about.....Chris Evans!!! Who woulda guessed it!! - Congratulations all, got a feeling this is going to be a page turner.
I think I've said this on other boards but I just don't get it - tried to listen a few times but not for me. Which is strange in a way 'cos I used to love TFI Friday - used to watch it as I got ready to go out for a beer.
How long do you recon till we get the 'Loath the show, Steve...' subject going? |

I think CE is definitely not right for R2, I find his style inane, childish & irritating; also he shouts, talks far too much, plays too little music and seems totally obsessed with his own importance. I have tried on numerous occassions to listen to him, however, it always turns out to be the same old me,me & more me, so it is still Driveltime, IMHO.
