Long live The Chris Evans Breakfast Show!!!!!!!
Fun, topical, exciting and with some good tunes too, keep it up Chris.
We have an age range from 18 to 64 where I work and EVERYBODY enjoys Chris's show, even the ones who said they didn't want him on Radio 2.
On the same token we have nobody at work who likes Ken Bruces show, totally down to the complete lack of variety in the music which is virtually the same every day. STAGGERINGLY BORING.
So while the consensus of the little clan on here is that you don't like Chris Evans, there are loads of people who do like him and would much rather have him than Ken Bruce who puts zero effort into his shows and just turns up and plays virtually what he has been playing for weeks and months on end. |

When CE took over the breakfast show two years ago I was very critical of him on the old Radio 2 message board, saying that this huge egomaniac would enjoy the initial publicity but wouldn't last long in the job, with his history of oversleeping and binge drinking.
I was wrong. Whilst he does talk and shout over records and interrupts his distinguished guests, he is lively and enthusiastic and, above all, the music is pretty good. He is certainly preferable to what follows at 0930. As Gazmando says, the 'music' that Ken Bruce plays is utterly bland and forgettable, all that effete disco pop and cheesy 80s slush that is the choice of the appalling 'producer' Gary Bones. I no longer listen to KB and listen to other stations instead which generally results in me staying away from R2 all day. |

Thanks, it’s good to be back. I’ve not actually been anywhere, Rudds, the line about touring, is borrowed and adapted from the movie, The Blues Brothers, where Cab Calloway introduced the band in similar terms, to disguise the fact that Jake had been in prison, and the rest of them had done very little for three years. I’ve not been in prison of course, however, I did spend a long weekend alone on an island off the Northumberland coast last October, which I think was quite possibly worse than being in prison but the rest of the time I’ve just been busy. But to coin another line from the same movie…. The Band! Elwood… the band!
It has been quiet on here, John. Does that mean everyone is happy with R2? I do hope so. |

well I'm not happy.. cc Fawlty Towers
I agree with Helen, I don't listen to much of Radio2 nowadays, prefering my internet radio for entertainment if I'm working. Otherwise Radio 2 is just a noise in the background playing the same old claptrap fromn the so called charts!
I still can't listen to motormouth whilst I'm in the bathroom in the morning.. he makes me cringe.. possibly even more so.. as he does when he spoils The One Show.. what is the point of him being there??
Pointless argument I know but I've yet to meet anybody who likes him!! _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I don't understand: R2 is really cooking, at the moment. Every show is bang on the button. (wait for it) We even listened to, TOE, last night. Fuzzy Duck, anyone? There just isn't a bad show, it's all good stuff. If you're not enjoying it though, just do something else.
You know, someone ( hubby) bought me a "Slanket" for Christmas ( a blanket with sleeves). At first I was devastated, how could he?! Me! A Slanket? They're for really old people, not for me. God no! But do you know what? It's roasty toasty, I like it, it keeps me warm when we're playing table football and when watching telly etc. I look like a Druid but who cares? No one can see me. What's my point? Ah, right, yes. Sometimes things you never thought would be for you turn out to be exactly what you need. It's just how you look at it. |

Welcome back Rachel. Good to know someone's enjoying Radio 2 (and, actually, good to read the positive Chris Evans comments - is the tide turning?)

To be fair, I think most people are doing something else now! Lots seem to be listening to Smooth, while I flit between Radios 2, 3, 4, 5, Real and Lancashire. Occasionally Chorley FM but only when I'm desperate. |

I'm just on Life, Helen. and Radio 2 of course. All the shows are great, I can't think of one that we wouldn't listen to.
Ian : TOE ( The Organist Entertains) Fuzzy Duck : a pub game in which the first letters of Fuzzy and Duck can, depending on how much you've had to drink, be swapped accidently. |

Oh pull the other one Rachel!
Even when I listened far more than I do now there were at least a couple of shows I couldn't abide. It's not normal to love everything, IMHO that is............. Or maybe you are being paid by R2 to wind us all up!

I’m not pulling anything, Helen. We just like Radio 2, it’s always on. We switch it off, only to watch TV for first half hour of the 7pm Channel 4 news and Coronation Street when that is on. Now and again we’ll watch things like Downton Abbey, and the Mentalist on Channel 5 but in the main, if we’re awake we’re on 2. Fuzzy Feltz wakes us up, we have Chris for Breakfast, Coffee with Ken, Jezza for Lunch, Steve for afternoon tea and Simon for dinner. We have the evening shows on when they don’t clash with Corrie, then we go bed at 10. It’s a regimented life but there it is, that is what we do. There’s nothing to dislike about 2. At the weekend we listen to pretty much everything to include but limited to Zoe, SOT60s POTP, SOT70s Alan Carr POG and Aled although he does make my toes curl sometimes, he’s so nice, in a slightly irritating way but we still listen. I didn't say that I loved everything, I just enjoy listening to Radio 2 a lot, that's not quite everything.
Paid by R2? – I wish. |

Well if you're not being paid by R2 Rachel,I think you're missing a great business opportunity there because from what you say I reckon you could do a more competent job than most of the promotions team Mr Shennan currently employs probably at huge salaries funded by us poor sods who pay our licence fees
Just out of interest I was curious to know which R2 shows you do dislike or even those you are just lukewarm about just to see whether most others on here agree with you
Is that what is commonly known as an exercise in reverse psychology _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Rach, as others have noted, the quietness here would indicate a lack of listening.
Remember R2ok is NOT the R2 appreciation society, it's the PRESERVATION society, i.e. folks want to get back to former standards that the station had in a) presenters b) music variety/breadth
I generally only comment on shows I listen to and as I posted in another thread my weekly listening time is now less than 1 hour.
Classic FM and R3 gets much more of my time now. _________________ -

Oh John! Radio 2 is live and happening right now, it’s a reflection of what is going on in the World today, now as we breathe, in and out, in and out: try it. You may enjoy it. It’s the stuff of the, moment. It’s real life, in your life, on the radio, right now. The listeners have never before had such a bean-feast of presenters and music over which they have more input than at any time ever. For example, I’ve had three Big Screen Belters played on the Breakfast Show, two sets of Gobsmackers, again on the Breakfast Show, and umpteen of my own selections played on Listener’s Library over the years (No Apostrophe fading here!) on Alex’s show, some of which had never been played on Radio in the UK before, ever. What’s not to like about that kind of listener involvement?
As far as preservation goes: I don’t think you get it. Preservation is something, which starts after a long-long-long period of blood, sweat and tears, fundraising and jolly hard work, which is called “restoration”. I don’t see any evidence of that on here. Where are the ideas, where is the correspondence? What exactly are you trying to do? You have to make things happen in this life. Where are the copies of letters to the BBC Trust, to the Radio 2 Controller, to independent production companies, with ideas for the sort of programmes you would like? Have you put a typical – “this is what I mean” programme together? Have you written to the BBC Archives to request copies of old programmes, to use in a Preservation Montage? Where is the passion? It’s not enough to say, I don’t like this, I used to like that, can we have that again please? On live Radio, no one cares about yesterday. If you want live radio to change and evolve into something akin to a previous era, simply folding your arms and looking the other way will achieve nothing.
Rudds, it’s very dangerous for me to point out things about Radio 2 that I don’t like. In the past I’ve said:
I didn’t like Wossy- he’s gone.
I didn’t like Brand- he’s gone.
I didn’t like SK- she’s gone.
I didn’t like R&M- they’ve gone.
I didn’t like Wrongbong- that’s gone.
I don't like the confusion hareem- that's going.
I’m quite sure their departure had nothing to do with me but you can see why I might be a little diffident with my dislikes. |

Radio 2 is the stuff of the moment.... yes so are all the local commercial stations and R2 is playingt the same music has they are, hour after hour. R2 fails to be distinctive in the daytime.
If you know the history or R2ok (and our colleagues at FoR3) you will know there is no "simply folding your arms and looking the other way".
As for the Trust, yes I have a folder of correspondence, but the replies seem to be written by a BBC person not someone who cares about music on radio.
I've been on Feedback twice, but controllers Douglas and then Shennan refused to talk live, so the 'answers' I got to concerns avoided the issues and I got no chance to respond back.
I attended the funeral of Malcolm Laycock and was most disheartened to hear producers and presenters talk about the Radio 2 management.
That's your so-called Radio 2 "a reflection of what is going on in the World today, now as we breathe, in and out, in and out...." _________________ -

I agree with all of your mentioned dislikes Rachel with the exception of R&M
It's just that I suppose my list of dislikes is rather longer than yours but there are still many shows I do like and so I think the answer for me is to become more selective about what I listen to and just to ignore the increasingly large amount of output which irritates me and that's what I now try to do _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

No! Well, yes Chris and Zoe! They are part of the Bean-feast. (What is a bean-feast?) Part of an enormous raft of delicious nibbles, to include but not limited to Jo Whiley, Barbara Windsor, Ken Bruce, Big Jezza Vine, Tony Blackburn, Paul O’Grady, that little fella on a Saturday Morning, what’s his name? Grill Graham and I can’t believe it’s not better. Norton, that’s the chap! Simon Mayo! Fuzzy Feltz, Gambo! Sir Terry Wogan!, Don’t forget the Traffic Girls , our Sal , Lynn and occasionally Bobbi, then there’s Johnnie the old Pirate himself as well as Alex and Janice, Steve Wright and that really brilliant programme Jezza does on a Thursday night and the equally listenable one Ken is doing on a Friday night, then there’s Aled Jones, daytime TV on Sunday morning Radio and whole truck load of other stuff I can’t remember from the top of my head. So there!
Texting is one way to communicate your thoughts and wishes to Radio 2, equally, you can e-mail, or use the contact the show pages on their website, use Facebook, Twitter, audio-boo, telephone, you could even write a letter or perhaps send a very large expensive gift of appreciation by courier. You could if the desire was burning you up, turn up at their door with a personally delivered message/request. Tis entirely up to you.
Did you hear Nat King Cole’s Rambling Rose on the Breakfast Show this morning? I very nearly burst and that could have been very messy- especially after a large bowl of porridge. Well it is winter. |

John, I think the Feedback from the Controller is what comes out of our Radio Speakers. As a whole, listening to 2 this year is different to listening to 2 last year and that was different to the year before that- so things have and are changing all the time as a result of listener feedback. The Feedback programme is not a Parliamentary Select Committee where you grill individuals with your own deep searching questions live in air.

No, I don't think the schedule changes or presenter changes have much to do with listener Feedback.

Quite often there is a dialogue or response on Feedback, but as I have said that is never the case when R2 controllers are put on the spot there, and most often they 'deliberately misinterpret' the listener's question just to avoid the real question, and THAT is where R2 has similarities with Parliament. _________________ -

How good is the music choice on the Breakfast Show this morning?- if they keep this up, they may be in line for the clock.. ( although competition is pretty tough this week- clock wise, there's more than five possibles at the moment- we might have to call a meeting but worse than that- we have to do it today because we're off on a long weekend tonight.) |

Well I had a look at the playlist and I feel no compulsion to 'Listen Again' particularly if Evans is wittering between the tracks.

Listening again is so last year anyway, John, especially with the Breakfast Show, you have to be there at the time to "feel" it. Listening again is like watching a recorded F1 Grand Prix - it's just not the same- all that tension and excitment but you know in your heart of hearts that it's all over- the rest of the world knows who's won and you don't, so you have a look on the text and think .... oh no.... |

Interesting to note, against the frequent comment that Radio 2 plays far too much "modern" or "chart" music, that more than 60% of that list is more than 15 years old, and none of it is in the Top 40 or, with the possible exception of Springsteen, likely to be. |

That's actually a pretty good line-up of music. The Breakfast Show is such fun nowadays - my girlfriend was very sceptical of Evans when he started but has been won over. She'd have loved that he played "Man or Muppet"

Matt Cardle? Nerina Pallot? Aloe Blacc? Jodie Marie (at a push)? |
