I think Radio 2 should prevent presenters having too much time off during the Christmas break..... What a shambles. |

I would disagree with that Major Tom, it's been pretty good from where I sit. A few too many pre-recorded shows but hey it's Christmas ... everybody needs a little time away.... |

Sorry I would have to disagree also. I have not listened at all recently. especially in the afternoon. Everyone needs a break but surely not all at the same time. |

I can se where major Tom is coming from. While it is a pleasent change to hear diiferent presenters, most of the daytime schedule is out of the window, with only Terry and Jezza(I think) in their normal spots. While I have enjoyed Mark Goodier doing the 5 - 7 slot there are those who are fans of Mr Evans who would like to see him back.
If Presenters holidays were more staggered, there would be more continuity of schedule. But Hey, I'm not controller of Radio 2. What do you think, Rachel? _________________ Geddon

I totally disagree with Major Tom.
It has been excellent to hear a different set of presenters over the Xmas period.
Hopefully the same thing will happen next Xmas. |

The quality of the replacements has varied from awful to quite good. If the stand in's made more of an effort it wouldn't be so bad. We have one stand-in who is so wooden that I'm have expecting to find out he has dry rot. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west.....

I'll admit to a little selfishness... in that, I normally record the overnight shows and listen to those during the day , so for me having a huge amount of Alex on over Christmas was a good thing. As I was on holiday too, I just found other things to do when the shows I don't care too much for were on.
But in a more general sense:-this week is a little different , as most people are back at work, and in human-nature, "familiar" is comfortable; this week, the day time shows, have been unfamiliar in the main, which for a normal week, is probably not what was required. I conceed that.
I've really enjoyed Alex being on though but I'm missing Chris Evans on my drive home. |

completely agree, the R2 xmas / new year schedule has been dire. We all, well nearly all, get Bank Holidays etc off and want to be entertained but what do we get....cheap standins, repeats and pre-recordings.
How can they give ALL daytime regular presenters (excluding JV as I don't usually listen anyway) Tues 2nd Jan OFF leaving us with the collection we got ? |

They deserve a break but you would think the powers that be would at least try and make sure that not all the daytime presenters are off at the same time. |

They don't get enough breaks ?.
Why can't they got A-list presenters to stand in for others when they need to be off ? |

I agree they should have better stand in presenters, but perhaps they think people don't listen as much during the holidays so they don't worry about who is presenting.
I don't think SK and CE are back until the week after next. |

I'am sure there is a reason for this? Anyway there is enough presenters to get cover so the main ones get more time off. It just dosn't happen on R2, all radio stations over the festive period do this. Not many people tune in this time of the year, and over the summer holidays when it happens too. |

They are not really B listed presenters, or they wouldn't be on Radio 2 and well known in the broadcast industry. It depends what people ( You the listeners ) are looking for from a radio presenter? I'm sure these have got there own style of broadcasting and they do sound safe to me.

Interesting, are you not a listener, eg do you work for radio2 etc, I would have used 'US the listeners ' ?
and what has 'safe' got to do with it ? |

I agree with you Toggy, it's sounding like an alien station at times this week.

Not really Mark, as it certainly doesn't sound much like the normal Radio 2 at the moment.

Some of the change has certainly been for the better, IMHO - I too can listen to afternoons again (although PM does eventually drive me to distraction but he's not as irritating as the usual incumbent) whilst AL has been fun to listen to live for a change.
Mind you, RB could take the year off and I wouldn't complain at all.... _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”
