Yep, fortunately he's not going anywhere, but it's a shame he won't get to play music from the last 40 years anymore (bar the Wogan stand ins). As I and others have said on here, his knowledge of music past and present is really good and much as I know he'll do a good job on the new show, it's a shame he still won't get a more general music based show.
This afternoon's show is going well - Proclaimers!!! |

I will miss this too. I have increased my music collection because of JW and they way he introduces you to new stuff. I think his talents are still being wasted and I know that many people will agree.
I did manage to record todays show successfully! I heard Helen's mention by JW, I must admit I had thought the same about Johnnie's last track before Alan Titchmarsh starts. _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

I think he should have ended the show with an AC/DC track. Just right before the start of Alan Titchmarsh's show!! _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Glad I'm not the only one to have found it amusing Angela! It's all the little bits he slips in. Tonight when he had found that the Cadillac Ranch was near Amarillo he quietly said 'anyone know the way'............. priceless!
I think it will be huge loss to Sunday afternoon/evening listening pleasure.

Yes, I do too. Johnnie's one of those presenters who's astute enough to know what music and performers are right for any show at any time (he's much, much more musically literate than any producer or programme executive at R2) and I cannot understand why he's been pigeon-holed in this manner.
Somehow, I get the feeling that this reconstituted "Sounds of the Seventies" show wasn't his idea. Will this be his last regular R2 show I wonder? |

That thought crossed my mind Colby, he seemed rather sad at the end last night as well.

His talents are being totally wasted yet we have all sorts of so called 'personalities' inflicted upon us, It makes you wonder what is going on still at Radio 2.
I was very sad too at the end of his show. I recorded it as my husband was at work and we listened together in the evening, I had just a short while before this finished reading 'Johnnie Walker - The Autobiography'. The chapter written by Tiggy made my eyes fill with tears. He has gone through such a lot and is not ready to be 'put out to grass' yet! _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

Yes, I agree. I managed to get my copy autographed by Johnnie himself. He's a lovely guy in person and what you see is clearly what you get. I've admired him since first hearing him on Caroline South (and I told him so - I felt like a fawning schoolkid but he was characteristically gracious).

I honestly think that within a couple of years he'll be out of R2, along with one or two other stalwarts.
Still, I listen to Planet Rock more now. Johnnie would fit in well with Rick Wakeman, David Jensen and co. I like Planet Rock - it's owned by rock musicians (and not the ubiquitous G-CAP media mafia). |

Yes hope he had a good one. It's also Eric Clapton's.

Funny, now you bring it up, I thought it wasn't the day after my husband's (his was yesterday) but heard Simon mention it so didn't doubt him.
