So what do you all think? I'm enjoying it. I think it's the sort of thing that should be on a Saturday evening and should be a more permanent fixture. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

It's great! Terrific radio, and he sounds to be enjoying it as much, if not more, than we are! I could get used to this _________________ Minx

I am recording it, but sadly not on reel to reel. Can you still buy these tapes because I still have the machine? _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

I don't think so Angela but if you Google you may find some or on Ebay. I suppose it wouldn't matter if they were recorded on as you could just record over.
Ours only works on 2 speeds. I think I'll get it out tomorrow to see what is on it!

Ours works on two speeds too. We have lots of tapes but I wouldn't want to record over any of them, there are too many treasures! _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

You're welcome Angela.
I wonder if he'll play All My Loving to finish? Apparently he used to end his last show before shore leave with it.

Twas a good show. I do hope they incorporate a track listing page on the website as they weren't all the well known tracks that he played. Johnnie Walker followed by the equally mighty Bob Harris. Are we getting our Saturday evenings back? I do hope so! _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

You need some extra software Angela. I use Total Recorder which isn't free. Audacity is but I'm not sure how it works.
Other than that you would need to connect a lead to another recorder, like we used to!

What a fantastic show. The production was brilliant with some old & new jingles. The music was brilliant. You are can only to do the old method by writing to the show. |

Meant to record the show and completely forgot (Jokes about senior moments and head like a sieve on a postcard...)
Music Played and Listen Again up and running. Will have to dip in after JW finishes at 9.30, although i-player sounds as though it's fighting a battle with something along the way this morning.
What with this and POTP and SOTS and Suzi Quatro we'll be getting complaints that there's too much 60s music on Radio 2
Helen, thanks for that link to the tape recorder drive belt and instruction kits! I have a Philips N4416 which has been in the loft for the last 25 years - still looks like new but I know it needs those at least. _________________ Ron |

You're welcome Ron!
Sometimes the links you see on these pages are more helpful than what you were originally searching for. I've lost count of problems I've solved in a roundabout way.
I'm going to get ours up a running when I've time as there are some really old tapes waiting to be played.

Hello, first post here. Be gentle with me please
It is on Listen again. I am recording it right now. And yes, it's sounding tremendous. Johnnie W. as I remember him from years gone by when I first herd him on Caroline when I used to stay at my great aunt's in north London in the summer of 65, 66 and 67 where i listened on a little Sony tranny radio.
I wonder where it was recorded? It's not a BBC studio "sound" at all. It sounds much the better for it tho'. |

well I'm blowed... I read the "why won't my iplayer work" blurb and followed the instructions to enable this and override that and now it's working for my dial up connection...
and it's sounding absolutely great!
Soon as I hear "Because They're Young" I go goose bumps... _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

What I like about it is that it sounds so completely different to all the other (incredibly bland) legal radio stations out there now. Johnnie sounds like he's really enjoying it, which is a feeling you just don't get with any other station you listen to these days (especially all those putrid local commercial stations presented by robots and aimed at people with no brains, not surprising when considering that the stations just exist to deliver ears to advertisers).
Yep, it's a real breath of fresh air. Sea air in fact! |

Magic days for sure Colby... ( welcome to the board by the way! ) I'm so glad I experienced them as a teenager. I was so excited when I first heard Caroline on 199 - at last, radio for us!

All that was slightly before my time. I came to the UK in 1968 & Radio 1 was already on air. I recall Tony Blackburn at breakfast!
Radio caroline continued intermitently for some years, but what I remember from my teenage years in the 70s was Radio Luxemburg.. that was very big at the time. thben capital & LBC came on air & took over!
I listened to a bit of JW on listen again. his conceit that he was broadcasting from a ship in the midst of a gale quite amusing.
I see he even extends that conceit, that it is the early 60s, to the only way to contact the show being by postcard!!!
BTW, anyone remember Radio Luxemburg? I also recall a country music show on a station, not the beeb, on a saturday night.. I think it was on Luxemberg?? |
