Well, I caught the last hour of Suzi Quatro's "American" SOTS. Not bad, she had personal knowledge of some of the acts, threw in a few memories and played some tracks I'd never heard before but were certainly different to the usual fare I have caught over the years.
I'm not suggesting she takes over permanently (since I have a feeling she might alienate the core SOTS audience with this sort of offering) but would there be scope to have this feature say once every four weeks, or do people think it's too similar to her "Rocking with Suzi Q" hour? _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

I had high hopes for todays show as I always enjoy the shows that do an old Billboard chart. However, while it was a good idea to go throuhj the decade a year at a time I thought that there were just too many rarities and not many songs that I was familiar with..no Beach Boys,Spanky and Our Gang,Byrds .
Also missed dear old Brian's A-Z of the Beatles today.
I think Suzie's definitely worth another go though but would still rather have Brian back or JW. |

I only heard the last hour as well.
A lot of what she played were songs I was familiar with as I'd heard them on US 60s stations over the years. They did have such different music from us back then. There are loads of others she could have played, and I include Spanky in those. They are too rarely heard.
I've not checked out the playlist yet so may listen again if the earlier years are as good.
I've a few mini discs that I made from the radio, must get them out!

No word on who is doing next week's. Maybe it will be JW as stated in RT online. _________________ 88 - 91 FM this is Radio 2 from the BBC!

Within the set limitations I thought Suzi Quatro did fine. She has a pleasant manner and a good knowledge of the times. I wouldn't want this sort of show very often but now and again it's OK.
Nice to hear some long-forgotten tracks, such as Gene Pitney's Half Heaven, Half Heartache. Sue Thompson's Norman is a perfect evocation of romance before the Pill (Norman kisses me and then..very little else in those days, I imagine!). Used to love all the Gary Lewis records, which were big in the USA but unaccountably did absolutely nothing here. Please Mr Custer brought back memories of the late Charlie Drake, who covered it here.
Is Johnnie Walker back next week?

Hi Ian
Have just re-checked online RT which says 'yes'. It said he was doing it today as well so we'll just have to wait and see.
I loved Gary Lewis as well. I had an American pen friend who sent me the 45 of This Diamond Ring at the time, no middle in it of course!
Seems to be a bit of a Geordie connection on this thread.....
