Jonathon Ross has been suspended by the BBC for 12 weeks without pay.....
Am I alone in thinking this is a weak, gutless "punishment" dished out by the Beeb to its golden boy???
He should have had the decency to resign, or failing that, be fired.
Ross, you're a puerile excuse for a man- everyone else concerned has done the decent thing except you. Hang your head in shame _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! |

He's not in breach of contract apparently...
You're right he should do the honourable thing.
TV news are talking in detail about the influence his production company has had at Radio 2, the influence of Big Brother celebs etc etc, yeah we've moaned about all that for ages, now we await the action from the BBC.

If he isn't in breach of contract I'd love to get a look at said paperwork...
Is it possible it contains the clause- "Be rude to and demean elderly actors and their relatives- BBC Directors will crawl and grovel on your behalf when the do-do hits the fan" ?
I really can't believe he's got away with the equivalent of a slapped wrist over this _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy!

Dermot has the same Management as Brand. "John Noel Management" I would expect he would defend Brand. It's only fair? |

I thought the track from Chris Richards "We've got to do better than this" was pretty telling as well. Like old Bob he's very easy listening. |

Ross would go up in my estimation (mind you, that's not hard considering where he lies in it at the moment) if he did the decent thing and walked too. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

To be fair to other DJs, Chris Evans did title yesterday's show "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility" which I took to be a reference to the current problems. |

Also worth remembering that the rot does go rather higher than Douglas - her bosses wanted a higher number of listeners and she presumably saw her method as the way to get them. Presumably there must be other ways to achieve this, ie without 'dumbing down', but let's hope that her bosses employ someone more suitable to run Radio 2 and so make it for more mature listeners.
Who IS her direct boss anyhow?
And who is HIS boss? Etc. |

Let's hope so. If so there may be a drop in listeners but let's hope that is not seen as failure. There needs to be a change of mind-set at the BBC.

Perhaps the new incumbant should only be in charge of Radio 2 and not control 6 music as well, as Lesley Douglas & her predecessor Jim Moir did. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I think Tim Davie is her direct boss, and presumably he reports to Mark Thompson - but I've probably missed out a few levels of bureaucracy. |

I really don't see what he did wrong, having read the transcript and listened to the broadcast on You Tube I found it rather amusing and think people have jumped on the bandwagon as it was blown totally out of proportion by the media.
I also think its a bit rich that someone who portrays herself as a Satanic Slut complains when people treat her as such.

The main issues are as follows:
1) The phone calls made by Ross and Brand were, amongst other things, abusive, insulting and illegal
2) They shouldn't have been broadcast |

That is still no excuse to leave obsence messages on her grandfather's answerphone, some people seem to be forgetting he is the innocent victim in all this yet he has behaved with grace a dignity throughout. |

I completely disagree with point 1 but agree it was unwise to have broadcast the show seeing as it was recorded.
I found the whole tape amusing but I guess that's just my sensuma. The whole thing has been blown out of all proportion but people on this board seem to be enjoying the fact that Brand is now off Radio Two and Ross I suspect will follow him out of the door - so you guys got what you wanted _________________ Chris Evans' Breakfast - doesn't sound quite as good as Chris Evans' Drivetime but good nonetheless! |

Oh come on, it was a bit of fun that the media have blown out of proportion - innocent victim my a**e, I wouldn't mind betting that this publicity will do her career no harm whatsoever.
It was all off the cuff remarks and I honestly cannot see why people can't see it for what it was.

I'm not talking about HER career, I couldn't give a flying coptulation about her career.
Fact is they left obscence messages not on her answerphone but her grandfather's, what the hell has he done to deserve that?
It was not funny, it was pathetic and purile, Ross is almost 50 for christs sake yet he behaves like a teenager. Most dissapointing is he has daugthers, I don't think he would be very happy to recieve such messages about them. |

What rot. I detested Mary Whitehouse and her bigoted, nannying, over the top, puritan views. I still do.
The Brand/Ross incident was, amongst other things, crude, vulgar, uncalled for, insensitive, intrusive and totally unnecessary. I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't have the common sense and decency to see that. |

Unwise because....... you recognise that the opinion of licence payers with morals is more valued than those without?

Indeed, too long has Lesley Douglas ignored complaints, failed to listen to the customer, and brought shame to the BBC by allowing yob attitudes free rein. It seems she didn't even listen to Brand's shows.
Good will come out of all this - some very decent progammes!

That only confirms that very few decent-minded folks tuned in.
And we should be thankful to the newspapers and their internet reports. Brand/Ross/Douglas were exposed as the obscene stain that they were.

Some people keep raising the issue of who listened to the show - let me put it bluntly - IT DOESN'T MATTER!
It's utterly IRRELEVANT to the main issue which is the fact that abusive calls were made. It DOESN'T MATTER to the main issue if they were broadcast or not, THEY WERE MADE anyhow and upset and offended someone else.
It's a bit like saying that you can pop off and commit some acts of vandalism, but as long as the majority of the population don't know about it then, well, what the heck, that's okay eh? You've STILL committed a crime.
Why some people cannot grasp this basic fact astounds me, but I guess those are the kind of people who would willingly commit such selfish acts. |

They were not abusive phone calls, what part of it is actually threatening in anyway? I'd appreciate it if you could point out exactly which part is abusive _________________ Chris Evans' Breakfast - doesn't sound quite as good as Chris Evans' Drivetime but good nonetheless! |

If you can't understand which parts were abusive by listening to the recording (you HAVE heard it haven't you?) then any explanation from myself or others won't help in the slightest. |

Not a troll at all, I have been a member of this board for a while - just because someone disagrees with your opinion does not a troll make.
It's interesting that there were only 2 complaints about this until a week later the Mail on Sunday published its take on the events. They came up with the obscene phone call angle, forcing Ofcom to investigate and they forced every other news agency to pick up the story, forcing the BBC to investigate. Every complaint since is just sheep joining in the mass electronic stoning.

Sachs is an entertainer too. He may be more upset with the BBC than he is with Brand/Ross. Knowing what we do now, his complaint was about the fact that the phone messages were broadcast.
Things could have been so much different if the BBC had had better people reviewing pre-recorded sections, but personally I feel the outcome is better than I expected.
R2ok was formed as a voice against the slow destruction that Douglas was bringing to Radio 2, and many here knew it was only a matter of time before she lost control of the two oafs that are Ross and Brand.
