Ross has more the lose. It's still not funny, as this can be serious for both if the BBC are fined? |

From what I have heard on their obscene broadcast I hold Ross the more responsible, he was the one suggesting 'tell him you'd had his daughter' and followed up with other stuff.
Ross should go too. |

Brand doesn't really do much for the BBC only the Radio 2 show? I think the haters will be celebrating .. I don't hate him. I didn't listen to all of his shows, just sometimes snippets. I just think this show on the 18th Oct went to far!!! One thing it takes a big and brave man too do something like this? It will cost him.. I'm sure he will bounce back, and be able to continue with other things? |

The BBC better get busy editing all those commercials featuring Ross & Brand on tv promoting Radio 2. More money down the toliet there me thinks!
Mark should edit his email signature as well - this "amazing line up" is getting more & more amazing by the hour _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Richard Hammond or Ricky Gervais?
Maybe it will be Mark Lamar, or is that Jonathan Ross he will be covering for? |

Can I start listening to R2 on Saturday evenings now without having to remember *not* to listen between 2100 and 2300? ! _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

The apology from Brand on the news tonight was at least a little more sincere. He sounded as if he's realised he'd gone too far.
I haven't seen anything of JR in the form of an apology?
It doesn't look good for JR as the news reported that his TV set had been dismantled! ( unless it's assembled/disassembled evry time? )
I think a portion of blame should be shouldered by his bosses though, for progressively allowing this form of show to be aired on BBC radio.
Interesting comment for me on this morning's coverage, and that was something along the lines of " maybe the BBC has got it's planning seriously wrong in catering too much for the younger listener."
I think they were talking about Radio2 in particular.
Again, maybe Ms Douglas should be interviewed. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Maybe that was a PR stunt, or his agent was pulling the strings behind him? |

I dont agree. Age has little to do with it. It is the BBC coarsening the broadcast culture that is the mistake. The abusive, hostile, cynical & nastiness that a lot of BBC shows now indulge in is the mistake. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Yes, but who now appears to be the target of all of the above? the younger listener or dare I suggest an increasingly major part of the current Radio 1 age group.
You've seen the reaction from younger people on the news, they don't see what all the fuss is about. They think it was funny - until it might be applied to their family of course. ( Respect? - yeh right )
It goes right back to old argument, maintain standards on Radio 2 - for grown ups. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

They keep forgetting that the population is ageing as well! Soon the 'yoof' will be the minority.

Pleased with Brand's departure. However Lesley Douglas should be brought to account over this. She commissioned this show on the network, hired the presenter and at the end of the day takes responsibility of the station, including the broadcasted content.
I would like to see Bob Harris moved back to his rightful 10pm - 1am slot.
If this is not possible for any reason then maybe a music based programme?
Perhaps use some Radio 2 ideas that were heavily advertised on the network (Sold on Song, The Music Club etc etc) as show ideas. Presenter wise I couldn't really care as it will be an instant improvement on the previous presenter. _________________ Daz M |

Helen, spot on - that is a fact and Radio 2 would do well to remember that a great many people find the Brand and Ross style of broadcasting completely abhorrent. Come to think of it, that's nowt to do with age, just good taste _________________ MiS |

How about 'The Fran Godfrey Show' - now that would be Lesley eating humble pie.
But yeah, I'd love to see Bob Harris return to his original time. That show is far too good to be a 'listen again' show and was always perfect for Saturday nights in.
I do feel a bit sorry for Brand but I'm glad I can tune into Radio 2 on a Saturday evening again. I just hope Ross doesn't go... but then again, I might find myself doing something productive on Saturday mornings if he goes - so every cloud....
Nick. |

Just read this, a few more names have been added to the saga.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/media/tv-radio/how-a-silly-prank-became-a-scandal-978542.html
Re what to put in place of Brand on Saturday?
Well one week could be filled with a Sold On Song Special with Dozier and Holland presented by Richard Allinson. It aired a few years ago now but to my knowledge has never been repeated.

Well let's just hope the scenario where Lesley Douglas has to go is proved correct. Then maybe someone will be appointed to turn Radio 2 around, and give the population what they want - quality music, no playlist, intelligent presenters. We are lucky to have Ken Bruce, a few more like him wouldn't go amiss. _________________ MiS |

Ross was going to apologise on his show this week... obviously he didn't get the chance. As for the set... yes, it's taken down and put up every week. Lots of shows use that studio (eg Alan Carr's Celebrity Ding Dong) so it can't stay up all the time. |
