Is Bmi right to fly near-empty flights in order to keep its valuable take-off and landing slots at Heathrow?
The cost of running a flight from Heathrow to Edinburgh is approximately £60,000 but the Heathrow slots are worth about £25m each and they lose the slots if they dont use them regulary. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Easy Jet have been doing this for years. I suppose the cost of keeping the planes on the ground at these airports are costing more than people think? I wonder why BAA won't too sell off some airports? |

Because then they might have some competition and they couldn't cope with that! _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Surely the sensible thing to do is for BMI to talk to BAA and say look ... we want to keep these slots for future use -so we're gonna pay you for them anyway ... but not use them as often as we have been.
It's a win win win..
BMI saves the fuel. BAA gets a bit of breathing space without a drop in revenue and of course none of that nasty carbon is pointlessly pumped into the atmosphere............. |
