I apologise if this has been done before somewhere on this forum and I realise that this is not exactly current but I only ever get a chance to read books on holiday.
The good lady wife and I have just been on our annual hols and I spotted JW's autobiography at the airport, so naturally I bought it.
If any of you haven't had the chance to read this book, all I can say is please do. It is a fascinating, and, at times, heart wrenching account of his life, particularly the final chapters where he speaks of his illness.
It was very interesting to read his thoughts about the end of his Drivetime stint where he thanked Stuart for his cover and thanked him for keeping the show in the Drivetime format. His words about Chris Evans were....well let's just say that he realised when he found out that CE was being given the job that he realised that Chris had a completely different style to his own and that was obviously the way that LD was intending to go. He had no real choice in the matter but to his honour he was diplomatic and tactful about the situation.
Anybody else read it? What were your thoughts? |

Thanks for reminding me about the book Angus.
I've got so many things I want to get I forgot to get it along with Ed Stewarts book.
Sounds a great read, looking forward to getting it.
Must get Pop Went The Pirates by Keith Skues too. Even though I wasn't quite around at that time I've loved any documentaries I've heard and seen about that era. It seemed like a golden era for British radio. |

Did he mentioned that he helped Chris Evans get his first job? So his style can hardly have been a shock to ol' JW. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Guess I should have posted this in "The Book Club"
When I checked there is a small thread going:
http://r2ok.s4.bizhat.com/r2ok-ftopic1896.html
but nearly enough for the great man.
I don't recall him mentioning that he got CE his first job. He did mention him earlier on although I'm struggling to remember why now.
Probably too many beers by the pool at lunchtime......... |
