I havn't tuned into Paul Gambuccini's show for a while.
Mostly, I'll be listening to US country radio stations on the net.
BUT I have been listening to R2 this evening, & Gambo's show really is superb!
Great selection of music |

Yes, there's no accounting for taste, Clive, and that has been No 1 over there for nine weeks, apparently. As the show focuses on the American charts I suppose he's contracturally obliged to play it!
It's a long time since I've been able to catch Gambo as well. He doesn't really play much that isn't either available, played or well remembered over here, but it is interesting to hear the odd track, usually in the country section, that isn't. _________________ Ron |

Yep. Do you ever listen to US country radio?
I'd recommend WQYK out of Tampa, Florida.
Back to Gambo. I like some of the oldies he plays |

I like the 50's and 60's oldies he plays. Often plays Sam Cooke which few others do now. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I quite like Gambo's complete and utter randomness, but there are times when I wonder WTF? as he looks for a spurious reason to include something.
But, yeah, shame about the Number 1... |

Yes at least you never know what Gambo will play next!
I like the oldies, First/Last and the British number 1's.

I too have recently started to tune into Gambo on a Saturday.
He certainly plays a very diverse range of music. I do like some of the more obscure artists he plays.
I wonder why Lesley Douglas does not use him as cover for some of the other presenters when they are away-I think he would be a great cover for the Bob Harris shows. |

I think he's quite annoying as a regular presenter - the sort of person who's days are gone with Smashie & Nicey. I find him a bit smartarse and humourless, and can't stand him on Friday Night Is Music Night.
He does well on America's Greatest Hits but I'm not sure he's suited to, say, covering for Ken Bruce (although, as you suggest, Bob Harris would be a different matter). |

Actually Ian you are right, I much prefer listening to RA on a weekly show as he had on R Oxford nd his Saturday show on R2. I also still miss his late night slot. His knowledge of music I think is suited best to that type of show.
Going back to Gambo I was lucky to win tickets for the Simply Red Stars concert last Saturday at the Radio theatre and Paul Gambaccini presented the show. It started a bit late but I guess he had to hot foot it round from Western House to Broadcasting House after the show which was live this Saturday gone!
The Simply Red concert goes out on Easter Saturday and was fantastic.

Good. It's fashionable to knock Mick Hucknall, amongst other stars of the 80s, but he knows how to put on a good show - I saw them **!! years ago - and I'm glad he still does so. _________________ Ron |
