I'm pretty promiscuous when it comes to papers because I tend to work in offices where they are always lying around. So I read the Sun, the Mirror, as well as the Guardian, the Times and the Independent. On weekends, though, I don't really read papers. If I do read the Sundays, I'm incredibly ruthless and get rid of all the sections that I have no interest in, like motoring.
Magazines
I read The Week religiously and have been a subscriber since the days when it was almost a samizdat publication. I read a lot of specialist magazines, too, such as Country Walking and Trail because I do a lot of fell walking. I also still read Viz and it still makes me laugh.
Books
Ian McEwan's On Chesil Beach is beautiful and heartbreaking, and I defy anyone not to be bowled over by it.
TV
The best thing on telly is House with Hugh Laurie and, comedy-wise, I like Peep Show and The Mighty Boosh.
Radio
I have about eight radios in my house and have them on all the time. My favourite programmes are I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, Jeremy Vine's programme on Radio 2, and Guy Garvey on 6 Music on Sunday nights. Actually, I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue has a competitor: Down The Line, the spoof phone-in show - a brilliant piece of satire.
Ads
Despite not being a fan of laddishness, I like those ads for Carling about knowing who your mates are. It's quite clever putting that idea in a variety of different situations. The ad I hate is the DFS one because everyone thinks it's me doing the voiceover. It's not - it's someone who sounds like me.
New Media
I love YouTube; it's the greatest thing ever. I love the fact that if you want to see, say, John Coltrane at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1958, or some obscure Italian prog rock band, you can. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Well I never. My day would not have been complete without that.
I have actually just started reading his Pies and Prejudice; he does write far better than he sounds. _________________ Ron |

I like Peep Show and The Mighty Boosh too! Noddy Holder said (on the Radcliffe & Maconie show) that someone had described David Mitchell (Mark in Peep Show) as looking like Maconie's little brother!
However, when I take sections out of newspapers it's usually motoring, homes and horse racing. _________________ We made a land where crap is king and the good don't last for long.

Thanks for that, best news I heard all week! Nothing against Sean, but his stint over Christmas was nothing special, keep him on 6music please! Though I noticed on mediaguardian there was some negative blogging regarding that station's latest changes by Dame Leslie...poor girl, she can't please us! |

I think s**s law has come into play here - I'm going away for a couple of weeks on 12th February so will miss Stuart's stint on Drivetime. There's just no justice! |

That happened to me when I was last away. Shame they don't publish their holiday roster so we can plan ours accordingly!!

Indeed not. Take a look at http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb6music/F1950413?thread=502025
Does it not remind you of when Evans was foisted upon us when Johnnie Walker relinquished the Drivetime show a few years ago? _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

Don't know about the link you gave us, but I thought it made a change from thinking that it was only R2 listeners who whinged about changes they didn't approve of.
It certainly reminded me the way the Beeb tried to surpress our thoughts. Don't know if 6 Music have message boards but no doubt any post that was quoted in Media Guardian will receive a swift death sentence!

Morning Aitch,
6 music do have message boards. In fact they have more boards than Radio 2 now with 5 topics to R2's 3!

It certainly does! Fair play to Mediaguardian, they covered the story well. I know the 6music complaints are nowhere near as big as the Evans/Walker story, but as already mentioned, it's good to see we're not the only ones dissatisfied! Phil Jupitus leaving was a big loss for 6music, on the few occasions I heard him (the week when J Ross deputised for Wogan I think ) the show was refreshing, something different to the usual 'morning DJ' stuff on commercial. |
