I thought I heard SW say that the Ginger Whinger was having or doing a pantomime this week, did I hear correctly? IMHO, when ever I have tried to listen to Driveltime it's been a bit of a pantomime, anyway. What do other posters think?

I personally think that he does a good job.....
..... and producing a pantomime each and every day of the week at 5.05pm!

Evans is doing some sort of Pantomime roll-call, but I can't remember what. I think it was Barry off Eastenders last night.
Meanwhile, Christian O'Connell is doing a Panto on his Virgin show on Thursday morning. |

Just an observation - the quality of Chris Evans threads on this forum has been unexpectedly poor. I fear than ern (gfloyd) may be the only Evans fan?

I like it Clive, but who is the ugliest sister, IMHO it has to be SW, as he looks like a little bold headed bloke with a huge hooter underlined by yard brush.

Oh, no, he's not! I'm a Chris Evans fan, too! I listen to him each day on the tram journey home. Splendid stuff!
The Pantomime on the Phone has been great, too!

I agree, we need much more anti Chris Evans messages to lure out his 5 five fans. Even Loonytoones has put away his thesaurus and gone Carol singing....
"I'm dreaming of a Ginger Christmas
just like the ones of twenty years ago
There'll be lots of shouting
and children pouting
in fact, just like his Drivetime show."

Hi Santa, nice one, good to see you trying to flush out the Ce supporters, rarer than a flight on time out of Heathrow today though at the moment. Suffer little children, but what about the adult R2 listeners?

Bob Harris, excellent! now I don't have to fool around with my Dab whilst I'm doing the washin... er, in the study.
Mark Goodier,... haven't heard him for a while but I seem to recall he was ok but then again, the sound of the fog horn around here would be better than carrot top. |

Its not Drivetime per se that Harris will be doing as it is usually a different type of show between Christmas & the New Year. Harris fits the laid back, off work mood well in the dead days between Christmas & the New year. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I think the guys can't put any real venom into their attacks on Chris now because they've realised they like his show after all.
Mind you, I am missing the Fox! Chris' comment about her having "a little fox inside her" brought up some lovely images!
Bob Harris should be nice & mellow on Drivetime! Hopefully, he'll slip in a few country tracks. |

Clive, I don't listen anymore, and unlike some, I won't criticise what I don't listen to.
However, I am looking forward to Bob and Mark.

Thats easy Toggy,
Evans is a 'one trick pony' I knew exactly what he would be like on radio 2 and having heard bits of shows over the months he has confirmed this for me. Unfortunately I cannot control all of the radio that I hear. _________________ SEX IS NOT THE ANSWER!

Which planet are you on Clive, I have tried to listen to the loud inane egoistical whinger on many occassions, as a supposedly genius of a radio presenter, he is utterly and totally useless and I hate his shows the more I try and listen. So how you can have the audacity to presume to tell me, and probably millions of other ex Drivetime listeners, that I like his Driveltime show after all is just someone full of their own presumptions . So don't assume, check, then you might just get something right about other peoples preferences.

BB,
I don't think I have the stamina for refighting the battle of drivetime on Christmas Eve
Anyway I was musing tonight in the car, that since this is a private forum and not BBC owned, there should be less petitioning the BBC or taking the forum hostage to try to make a point to the controller. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Hi Ernie, I thought this was the Radio 2 preservation society board, so it's not a refighting of anything, its simply an on going fight to preserve R2 as a station of quality and diversity. This, IMHO, has been diluted by the introduction of people like Wossy & Evans as presenters on R2. I know other people feel the same, as others would disagree, so I wish to keep the specialist shows that have provided a great deal of pleasure and diverse choice of quality radio to so many R2 listeners for many years. I cannot accept that the crudeness of Wossy and the inane loud ego chasing style of Evans is an improvement on what preceded them. I did not and still do not like or listen to all R2 programmes, however, I do feel that R2 should evolve whilst preserving the quality and diversity that it has an excellent reputation of doing. I like R2, it is my favourite radio station, its not perfect, but you can't please all of the people all of the time, so if I feel, IMO, that some radical change in format to a show is wrong, I will say so.

BB
The only way to "preserve" Radio 2 is to let it evolve with the times.
As for "quality and diversity" I would argue that Evans show has maintained or added to the diversity on the network. You must remember that although the Walker show appealed to you, it put off loads of others with its rather narrow focus on American soft rock music and country. The features were nothing special either. The mystery voice was pure local radio. The best bits have been kept and built upon. Rebecca & Johnny are making sport & business accessible to a wider audience, the food & lifestyle features are also done now with a genuine enthusiasm that relates strongly with a core audience in their 30 and 40's especially.
The music is the most diverse on any daytime show. The show actually bothered to go on the road to the listeners in places no other show would go to because they aren't glamourous enough (Auchterderran, Castlederg, Sebastapol anyone)
What has been most heartening is the posts on the old R2 message board of people who were initially shocked at the decision to give the show to him, who subsequently listened and now love the show. He wont win over everyone but even Sir Terry has people who cant stand him. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |
