Very well represented this weekend, with tracks on SOTS, Sunday Love Songs and Parkinson. Have I missed an anniversary or similar?

Not that I know of but he is a typical Radio 2 artist anyway. Barely a week goes by without Wogan or Bruce playing a few of his songs. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Well, one of two, usually. Usually "Baby please don't go" o "Brown-eyed Girl". I don't think the producers are aware of any of the remainder of Van The Man's superb back-catalogue. |

They play "Moondance" a lot too. He's way overplayed and my heart sinks every time he comes on. And just to rub salt in the wound, the new David Gray they're playing all the time sounds like a VM castoff too! |

I was watching a DVD of Tom Petty last night and he did a fantastic version of 'Baby, please don't go.' His band 'The Heartbreakers' are wonderful musicians! Another highlight was 'Handle me with care', The Travelling Wilbury's song. It is a double DVD and I look forward to part two! |

Looking round the shops today, I noticed that Van Morrison's got a brand-new Greatest Hits collection out today. Oh, what an amazing coincidence that is! |

I am not surprised that Tom Petty did a great version of Handle With Care, after all he was a member of The Traveling Wilburys.
Van the Man has written, recorded, co-written arranged and produced some excellent music over the last 4 plus decades, much of which is never played. I have always thought him to be an enigmatic musical genius that cannot be pigeon-holed; Raglan Road from Irish Heartbeat, recorded with the Chieftains, Here Comes The Night, with his band Them, Coney Island, from Avalon Sunset & Lets Talk About Us, with Linda Gail Lewis, are favourites of mine that never seem to be played on radio. Yet I still enjoy Monndance, Brown Eyed Girl, Bright Side of the Road, Cleaning Windows etc. whenever I hear them.

I like 'Let's talk about us' by Jerry Lee Lewis, but then I like 99% of Jerry's music! I have met Linda Gail Lewis at a BBC recording session and she called me 'Darlin!', But then she calls everyone that!
Linda Gail and Van the Man had a big falling out after their record together and their tour, and I think the legal settlement means we will never know why. Unless you know...... |

Alice Cooper played Them's 'One, Two Brown Eyes' this week on Planet Rock!
I associate Moondance with its use in 'An American Werewolf In London', but Stuart Maconie said one week that the instrumental break sounds like the incidental music in the 60's Spiderman animated series! _________________ We made a land where crap is king and the good don't last for long.
