Cheers, Mark.
Richard back to R2, Alex and Bob in the daytime - brilliant!
I'll even listen to Paul Merton to see what he's like filling in....

Definitely looking forward to Paul Merton! But I was surprised to hear that Bob Harris is covering Drivetime; a bit of an odd choice. I'd read that on the old forum, and had thought it might be a wind-up. _________________

It does look like an interesting line-up. I've never tuned into any of the Boy George shows, I think this is his third.
LG, Bob Harris will be a welcome voice at 5-7pm especially as most Radio 2 listeners will not be driving home from work that week, but chilling at home.

They may be doing many things including fighting for bargains in the sales. I'll enjoy Bob for a change anyway. I prefer him to some of the other standin's to be honest. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I like Bob Harris. Although I dislike the music too much to listen to Bob Harris Country, I've always found him quite agreeable on other music-focussed shows he's done. Drivetime's a slightly different kettle of fish, though. I suspect I may find the Harris incarnation of Drivetime a little dull for my own taste. _________________

Radio 2 saves Christmas!
Ok a bit over the top, but at least the radio will be worth listening to this year, I got hold of a listngs magazine last night, and the telly is dire!
One decent film, and, as usual, wall to wall soaps _________________ Geddon

The picture on the Radio 2 website shows him in the studio. On the basis of this it is reasonable to suggest that the show has already been pre-recorded at this stage.
Is it not reasonable to expect the shows up to lunchtime on Christmas Day to be live? _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I don't know, as much as I dislike the fella he's entitled to spend Christmas with his family. I don't really see why it needs to be live. |

I suppose what I am suggesting is that they should find someone who doesnt mind working for a few hours on Christmas morning to present the show. Loads of people would be willing to do it, especially if the dont have young children. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

If you listen to Tel and the emails from listeners asking this and he says in a tongue and cheek way 'Of course it's live'. Of course both have been pre-recorded. |

If you're expecting something akin to CE's output, you will be disappointed. I vaguely remember BH's shows from last Christmas and IIRC, they were a very similiar format to his night-time show, albeit with less obscure bands/artists and with a few tracks from the usual playlist thrown in for good measure. I'll certainly be listening.

It's dead easy to tell if a show is pre-recorded .. just listen to it for a few moments. A pre-recorded show , is just like a live show but with all the life, atmosphere and zingyness, sucked out of it; leaving a cold, clinically dead but very safe presentation. Pre-recorded shows are pointless. |

You can also tell when the presenter starts getting confused with all the 'yesterday', 'today' and 'tomorrow' references as they try to remember which day it's actually going out on.
I don't begrudge people pre-recording a show so they can be at home with their families and still honour their committments to the general listening public, but Rachel's correct - you can tell the difference.

HI Cherskiy ,
the thing that really "irritates" me is when they pre-record a show and pretend that it's a live show, like the Ricky Gervias shows last year. They ask for people to text in etc........... as far as I'm concerned that's a deception too far.
Pre-recoreded documenety style programmes are ok of course |

Rachel,
Same here! it's so annoying when they try to pretend it's live when it obviously isn't.
I'm not bothered if it's not live, but don't bust a gut trying to pretend it is! _________________ SEX IS NOT THE ANSWER!

Isn't that what RB's doing at the moment - asking people to e-mail, text and phone in - but he's not there as it's pre-recorded?

You can tell parts of Steves show are pre-recorded, as the voice drops and sounds like he's talking in a toliet basin.
