I much enjoyed listening to the lively banter/argument between Stuart and Digby Jones on Drivetime earlier tonight.
It was clear to me Stuart was getting very annoyed with DJ to the point where he suddendly went very quiet - I feel sure he was about to say something that could have got him into serious trouble after the show with his superiors.
SM showed some real fighting spirit-first time I have heard this sort of thing from him-excellent stuff Stuart. |

Ernie-The fact that 8 million people in this country cannot read or write or add up properly and the new inititives that are being put in place to try and do something about this massive proble.
Stuart was going to blow his stack at DJ-if you want to hear some lively radio tune in between 5.15pm and 5.30pm approximately. |

Yes, I actually stopped working on the PC and started to listen intently to the exchanges - the first time in a while that I've heard SM speak with such passion. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Crikey, I got home just as Alex was finishing his telephone call and missed this, thanks for the heads up.

If Stu showed a bit more passion I might actually listen to him on Drivetime. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I like his obvious passion for music and the fact that he's able to engage with people on an intelligent level. It's one of the reasons I've been listening to Drivetime this last couple of weeks whereas I would normally avoid it like the plague. |

He doesnt really engage with people at all. That's his problem. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

On that point we have to disagree, I guess. I'd say that Evans is the sort of guy who's not in the least bit interested in what his guests/callers think because they're taking up time in which he, himself, could be exercising his vocal chords.
I've heard several really interesting interviews done by Maconie, on the other hand. |

That's a matter of opinion, not fact. It may well be a fact that he does not engage with you, however, he most certainly engages with me and I find his broadcasting style, knowledge and passion for music much to my liking, pity it's his last day sitting in on Drivetime, this Friday.

Sorry Ernie I totally disagree.
Have to say I find Stuart very engaging on the radio both with his colleagues and guests etc-certainly the Drivetime shows this last couple of weeks have been very enjoyable and listenable to.
I have to say I prefer Stuart solo on the radio as opposed to his "duet with Radcliffe"-the jury is still out for me on this show-it hasn't "grabbed me by the ears yet". |

Perhaps he doesn't engage with you, but his style works just fine for me. |

It works for me too. He's been great these last couple of weeks. It's such a pity that he has to hand back to "Mr. Me, Me, Me" on Monday. |

I totally agree-have listened to the Drivetime show every day Stuart has been in the chair-simply put great radio entertainment-sadly I won't be tuning in when Evans returns.
Why do you think this is Ernie? |

Evans has been doing that all his life, and that's why I cannot listen to him. |

I can't say I blame Maconie for getting mad at Digby Jones! The way him and Bill Oddie nearly came to blows over Morrissey on the Culture Show just shows he sticks to his guns.
I can understand the problem about illiteracy in this country because there were some absolute drongoes who would come into the shop and eat pasties when the notice clearly said 'No eating or drinking in the shop'. Likewise there are now notices on buses telling people to use their MP3s or mobile phones in a way that doesn't disturb the other passengers.
But do the owners of these take heed? Like hell they do! _________________ We made a land where crap is king and the good don't last for long.

Well, Ernie, I too have to disagree with you on this one - I'd suggest that SM engages with listeners whilst CE only goes through the motions.
YMMV, of course. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”
