I work with a woman just like her, nobody asks how she is, she has a pain and something wrong with practically every part of her body and she's nowhere near fifty yet. My dad's the thick end of 80 and could run rings round her. She's also one of those folk that, if you tell her you know a bloke with two wooden legs.. she knows somebody with three ! |

Has there been a day when Sarah has not moaned about either some illness or the studio.
A few weeks ago it was too hot "I nearly fainted" "I felt sick" then it was too cold "I'm wearing a thick jumper and a scarf"
Then there's the weather, too wet, too windy, too cold, too hot, etc |

You should visit my Retirement Home Toggy, I hear much more than that! This morning, the four ladies playing scrabble in the conservatory (no curtains) said it was too bright!
I could feel my Basil Fawlty alter ego coming on.. " You couldn't sit somewhere else? Right!, I'll just turn the sun down a bit should I? Fine..." |

Yes but presumably the folks in your retirement home are of advanced years, how old is Sarah? about 55 or so, she moans like a 95 year old |

Hopefully Richard will be in Sarah's chair for tomorrow if she's feeling so poorly. |

Yes, I thought that too - sounded like she'd been winding up to having a day or two off from the comments I heard her making on Monday and Tuesday. The only evidence I heard re a sore throat etc. was that she stopped halfway through a sentence and had a drink of water.... _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

To be fair to her, there is a thing going round that gives you a very sore throat but -in my experience- doesn't really affect the voice. It's just dry all the time, so she was probably drinking lots during the records... |

Cher, yes I think you're right mate- she was just winding up for the sickie.
Beeb management must have sorted out a stand-in well in advance... mind you, with the amount of whining she does about her constant "ill-health", I imagine they have a stand-by jock on permanent alert 24/7 _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! |

As soon as I heard SK mentioning that she had a sore throat, and that we could well hear somebody else doing the show tomorrow, I immediately thought that Richard Allinson would be heard this morning. And so he was.
As a matter of interest, the R2 duty manager at BH has a standby list of presenters who get the phone call as soon the scheduled presenter can't get in to the studio. They have a roster, which means that - in RA's case - he couldn't go out on the town the night before just in case he gets the call, and he must keep his mobile phone switched at all times. It could be that he was told yesterday that he would be in the studio this morning. |

Another alarming thing I've noticed very recently about SK is her insistence on refering to the Skeleton Staff as "The SS"
Polishing up the jackboots for a foray into Poland, are you, Bunty?
Given the age of a fair proportion of her listeners, it's not the best chosen phrase is it _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! |

I hate the cliqueyness of her show and its assumed audience - it took my wife and I a long time to work out what she meant by "SW's to you.." etc. and when we did actually figure it out we were singularly unimpressed. It assumes that people also listen to Steve "aren't I great" Wright - which neither us do. |

I don't see how that's any worse than Terry and his TOGS. And the Steve thing suggests the clique is not just Sarah's listeners, but Radio 2's listeners. It's a big joke for those who listen to Radio 2 a lot, and I think that's actually quite warm and friendly. |

I guess you're right in part - better that that the in-yer-face radio that's so prevalent today. Or - worse - local commercial radio first thing in the morning!
We did finding ourselves asking" WTF...... is she on about???" when we heard her say SW more than a couple of times, though. |

Keep close to your telephone tonight Richard.
Hopefully you'll get the call asking you to cover for Sarah Sicknote Kennedy tomorrow.
NB-At least we know you will not be tuning into the Apprentice tonight as you advised on your BFBS Radio 2 show earlier today. |

No he didn't say he was covering Sarah as I would expect he will take one day at a time. Oh he did say " Sarah get well soon, and please come back with a little moan in his voice sounding like he dosn't like early mornings " |

I would expect he didn't need to sit by his phone as it's already set out for him to cover. You talking like he's reading your post at the same time Now calm down it's only a radio show and Richard |

It does seem like this happens a few times a year like Wogan taking a sicky. I do wonder this is because Richard is needed to full fill his contract with Radio 2 and so many people moan we dont' hear enough of him? It does make you wonder? You can't help people being unwell. |

Allinson won't have a contract with R2. He'll be used on a per-show basis. He is a freelancer and is on the open market - hence his work with BFBS and others. I am sure he will be actually paid a modest retainer to be on the R2 standby roster whether he's called or not. |

Not to be on standby it won't. It's not a wage, either, just a fee paid for the actual days that he's on standby roster. If he gets called in then he gets a fee for the show he does and that's it. |

Hoping Richard is able to complete his hat trick of appearances tomorrow Friday.
