The resumption of BBC TV in 1946 went like this, apparently: "Good afternoon everybody. How are you? Do you remember me, Jasmine Bligh?". 20 minutes later, they repeated the Mickey Mouse cartoon "Mickey's Gala Premiere", that had been interrupted in September 1939. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Didn't she say something along the lines of "and now back to the Mickey Mouse cartoon that Hitler so rudely interrupted" _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Shame about Baird and his ill-fated system. Still - as Mr. S assures me - the Zworykin / EMI system was much better and became the basis of television as we came to know it.
There. I almost sound like I know what I'm talking about! (Thanks to that big strong hunky if greying man of mine who used to work for Auntie).

Sadly not (as it was one of my favourite lines) - that was a newspaper headline on the subject from the time, I think.
The whol subject is covered in lots and lots of detail on the Transdiffusion website at www.transdiffusion.org - you've just got to find it! _________________ "....you're wearing a plywood bow tie with Dundee United on it?" |

To go back to SW in the afternoon, I may be going soft in my old age, but I really enjoyed the oldies this afternoon, maybe it was cause they were mainly "Baby Boomer" years music. Good to hear Peter & Gordon, you know the one that ain't a moron

No BB, Julie was Gordon the moron's new girlfriend ala:
"I've been going out with a girl
Her name is Julie
But last night she said to me
when we were watching telly
(this is what she said)
She said listen John I love you
But there's this bloke I fancy
I dont want to two time you
So its the end for you and me
Who's this bloke I asked her
Goooooordon, she replied
Not THAT poof, I said dismayed
yes but he's no poof she cried - he's more a man than you'll ever be
Here we go, two three four
I was so upset that I cried all the way to the chip shop
When I came out there was Gordon standing at the bus stop
And guess who was with him
Yeah, Julie, and they were both laughing at me
oh, she is cruel and heartless
to pack me for Gordon
Just cos he's better looking than me
just cos he's cool and trendy
but I know he's a moron, Gordon is a moron
Gordon is a moron, Gordon is a moron
Here we go, two three four
she's a ****, and he's a creep
she's a tart, he's very cheap..."
Excellent stuff! |

There was some pretty good stuff around when I think back to the late 70's and early 80's, and a strange mixture in the charts too. I liked oddballs such as Jilted John! |

Unless I'm mistaken, John Shuttleworth was involved with the Kursaal Flyers. _________________ Geddon

Yep, heard that at around 0550 this morning, hadn't heard it for years.... nearly made me want to dig out my copy of The Dickies' "Banana Splits" (in yellow vinyl, 'natch!).... _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”
