I heard the start of JV about the Sex Pistols single, and asking for thoughts. I couldn't be bothered to keep his show on long enough to hear any feedback but to me this was one of the best records ever
What are your thoughts ? |

I've never listened to it. Never liked the Pistols, I was into the Stranglers and The Jam in 1977. |

Always thought Punk was just 'make it up as you go along' noise as a yoof. Oddly though now, in my more mature years, I regard songs like 'Pretty Vacant' as a very pleasant, melodic little ditty!
(Wonder what Danny would make of that in 'Sniffin' Glue'?!!) _________________ Who Can Take A Sunrise, Sprinkle It With Dew... |

I love some of the Pistols stuff, also Sham 69, Public Image, Rezzilos, Stanglers, the Jam ... all edgy stuff from the 70s....
My dad didn't like any of it though |

I'm not a fan of Punk, I thought and, still do that it was a lazy, noisy rebuttal to the often, well crafted, melodic, and thought provoking stuff that was Prog.
There is, of course, and exception. That for me was The Jam, Paul Weller at his best. Eton Rifles, London's Calling etc were too good to be punk. _________________ Geddon

Wasn't that part of the reason to like it ? |

I think God Save The Queen (pistols version) is the best rock single ever released. At the time I bought two copies, one to play to death and one to keep for posterity. I still have it - it has never been played!
I was very much into Genesis, Pink Floyd, Yes, King Crimson, ELP, etcat the time but quickly pretended not to like them once the Pistols hit the scene. I saw most of the punks in that era, but nothing beat the pistols for me. They were actually a great laugh onstage because the whole thing was very tongue in cheek. |

Have you ever heard Paul Jones' cover version of Pretty Vacant, Lady B? He restyles it into a smooth disco number, and in a strange way it kind of works - what posessed him to record it I have no idea, though! _________________ "....you're wearing a plywood bow tie with Dundee United on it?" |

Well I did - and mention of The Rezzilos sent me digging out my copy of "Can't Stand The Rezillos", which is playing as I type this.... ah, the gentle tones of "Someone's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight"!
That's torn it - X-Ray Specs on next after this CD is finished! _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

If you EVER see a copy of God Save The Queen on the A&M label at a car boot
BUY IT IMMEDIATELY.
It was withdrawn practically immediately but about 100 copies do exist.
There is one on ebay...Current bid £5,900 YES nearly six grand for a seven inch single.
I have the Virgin label copy but not the A&M one.
