Great show (but since when was the Beach Boys' Darlin' a hit in 61? Try 7 years later.) but what's with making it harder to enter the competition--only one reading of the questions, tighter deadline for receipt of entries?
Astonishing to hear the Buddy Holly influence in the Beatles' I'll Be on My Way, even including a lift from the tune of It Doesn't Matter Any More.
Laughed as I recollected the cheap and cheerful Embassy cover singles. Matt Bryant, eh?
Is there a story behind the composition of the Shadows' very catchy Stars Fell on Stockton?
Always a pleasure to hear the Merseybeats but odd that their appearances with BM on Thank Your Lucky Stars always went down better than their chart performance might have suggested.
It's nearly 3 years since my father-in-law died. Hearing the Seekers always brings back happy memories of him, for he loved Judith Durham's voice.
Love the idea of the Playing Hard to Get feature and hope it really takes off. By the way--if the person who borrowed my Hancock's Half Hour cassette in about 1979 is reading this, I still live at the same address and would appreciate the return of said cassette!

'Stars Fell On Stockton' was used a lot on TV as theme music, but is the title reflective of Hank Marvin's Newcastle roots? I know they did 'Alice In Sunderland' too. _________________ We made a land where crap is king and the good don't last for long.

Oh yes, I'd heard rumours a certain B. Matthew did one or two of these - I've not heard the show, but I have the Embassy recording of 'Goodness Gracious Me', where Brian apparently took the Peter Sellers role......Ken Barrie of Postman Pat fame did loads of them, as did Mike Redway (the man who later gave us Terry Wogan's rendition of The Floral Dance)! _________________ "....you're wearing a plywood bow tie with Dundee United on it?" |
