An inspiring Pause for Thought from Father Brian d'Arcy on the resumption of devolved government in Northern Ireland. But didn't it jar when they followed it with the Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Any More!

I sometimes wonder if the producers genuinely don't realise what they're lining up next or whether they're making some kind of snide comment about what's been said....
Of course, the Thoughts on TW's programme go out live so presumably the next record has been decided well in advance - maybe it should therefore be a neutral title, one that won't be inappropriate. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Still cant beat Steve Wright's choice of songs on Sunday Love Songs for inappropriateness. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Well, you can't leave it at that, Ernie - examples, please!

Well it tends to go along the lines of a couple celebrating an anniversary and saying how much in love they are with each other forever and then Stevie plays something like Whitney Houston and "Saving All My Love For You" which is about a mistress trying to get a husband to leave his wife. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

What's next? "Killing Me Softly" or "Suicide is Painless"? _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

I assume Alan Boyd didn't realise what the content of Father Darcy's message was going to be.
He usually makes good choices after PFT, I'm sure it was just an oversight. |

Some of Jezza Vine's producers selections can be toe-curling and quite sarcastic....
Although, "Yellow River" after an item about drinking your own urine was inspired

I remember that one well PJ!
Re the Pause For Thought, I did notice that Ian but I agree with Toggy that the following songs are usually well chosen.

I can't forget a news item on Radio Aire, about Richard Whiteley being admitted to hospital, being followed by Europe's The Final Countdown! _________________ We made a land where crap is king and the good don't last for long.

I have a fear that Steve Wright might follow a news item on the Madeleine McCann case with Michael Buble's 'Call Me Irresponsible' in honour of the parents, or 'Since I Lost My Baby' by the Action.
My sister, who gets very sensitive about news stories about missing children, once said he was irresponsible playing 'Sara' by Jefferson Starship when Sara Harper went missing. _________________ We made a land where crap is king and the good don't last for long.

I'm afraid the words "good taste" and "sensitivity" are rarely if ever mentioned when discussing Steve Wright's attitude _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! |

And I suppose if the sun moved too close to the earth that would be Steve's fault too.
It's the producer who choses the music so blame him/her if you must blame anyone. |

Fair point but surely the presenters must recognise good / bad taste when they see it.
I remember back in the 90's whrn Danny Baker has the R1 Sat / Sun slots and it was remembrance Sunday. So, strainght after the minutes silence (was only a min in them days) he played an advert for a show ranting about remembrance - why should we do it anymore.
Danny, quite rightly, took umbrige to this and threw the tape around the studio and had a go at his producer on air!! Fantastic! _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |

That probably would be Steve's fault, 'cos if he gets any fatter he'll start generating his own gravity-field- thereby negating Earth's, which would send us screaming into the Sun... ner, ner!
(Love ya really, Toggy )
The fact remains, I't's up to the presenter to realise when the boundaries of poor taste are being breached- and say "No!" After all, it's the presenters name that's on the tin, as it were. _________________ He's not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! |

But it's possible that the presenter might not make the connection so in my opinion it's down to the producer. |

I guess it all depends on what the presenters doing during the news - popping out to the loo, etc.
But yeah, I can see what you're coming from - perverse producing though, and of course producers aren't the face of the show so won't get any flack. _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |
