Interesting article in the Observer today. I would ask for considered responses only. If you want to rant & rave try the gripes forum

Yes is that his girlfriends name? I always wonder if Chris and Sally would get it together?
Like this bit:
And quite right too. Evans is incredibly bright, and this, plus his new-found humility, has seen him subtly altering Drivetime from its first incarnation. A year ago, the programme was, well, too breakfasty: too much noise and kerfuffle, as though he was worried we might all fall asleep on him (always a danger with a Radio 2 listener). Now, it's as though he's been taking lessons from Terry Wogan and Steve Wright. You can hear Terry in the relaxed relationship Evans has with his travel presenter, Suzi, and the rest of his on-air team. Instead of bullying them, he lets each presenter fly, just asking relevant, enthusiastic questions. Steve Wright is detectable in Evans's slick use of background noise. It's not quite ye olde Smashie and Nicey 'quack quack oops', thankfully, but Evans is uncool enough to enjoy a silly sound.
Actually, the most enjoyable aspect of Evans's show is just how middle-aged it is. He talks regularly to little kids; there is much revelling in things like lawn mowers, static caravans, trout fishing, sports. Evans likes to learn useful facts; he plays rubbish music with relentless enthusiasm; he flirts demurely with any respectable female with a saucy voice. (As a side point, that last seems to be written into the contract at Radio 2. Terry Wogan, Steve Wright, Chris Evans ... all tend towards that horrible flirty golf-club banter with any female travel presenter or news reader. It makes me cringe, but then I'm a boring femo who thinks saucy-voiced women should be given their own shows rather than being employed to giggle at the big boys' jokes.)

Hopefully he is not learning too much from Wright. Otherwise we will be listening to the same bloody show for the next 30 years. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

and there was me thinking he was a new direction for the old Radio 2. In reality then, he's copying the old guard?

For his wages, I think I could talk drivel too! don't you?
Still, nice to read he's copying the master...... |

thankfully he is copying Terry in his relationship with his co-presenters & NOT Steve Wright. He is only copying Steve Wright's use of music beds. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

To be fair it dosen't say he has been taking lessons from Terry & Steve, it says "it's as though he has"
Still if he has been it's no bad thing, for all his faults I think Steve is still a good presenter, it's the content of his show that is the problem. |

Yes Steve's main problem is his unwillingness to change & realise that this is not 1988 any more _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Well you know my thoughts on this Ernie, and they haven't changed. The radio was left on in the kitchen last week while I was elsewhere in the house for some time. I returned to find him still asking for kids to ring in. Children's Hour I do not need.
He's banned in our house as I prefer silence to his drivel.
Shame the author of the article couldn't take the trouble to remember Sally's name........

She didn't necessarily reply "Yes, I listen" _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Nice article. Well written but with some poor attention to detail. The main thing with Chris is, he listens to his listeners, then takes them where they want to go, in a, before you can lead, you must learn to follow kind of way... |

Radio 2 is definitely divided between golfers & non-golfers. On one side you have Terry, Steve, Chris & probably Ken & Jeremy. On the other side you have Mark Lamarr, Radcliffe & Maconie. (somebody is going to tell me now that Stuart plays off 6 _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

He has never replied to my emails, so I can only assume he does not listen to this potential listener and he certainly does not take me where I want to go from 5 -7 PM, Monday thru Friday, Radio 4 or Planet Rock do that.
