It was 5pm, I had switched to 5live to avoid the horrorscopes. I realised the Stuart Maconie was on R2.
I switched back to catch the end of Fran's news bulletin. Then came the opening bits then Sylvia by Focus.
The hour for the journey home passed very easily with good music well presented.
Please tell me it isn't true, that we only have this excellence for 2 weeks while Mr Evans goes to spend his cash? _________________ Geddon

I had more or less the same encounter as you Geddon, lovely drive home tonight, cheers Stuart.
'Fraid we do only have Stuart at the Drivetime for 2 weeks but savour them, me I'm going to start missing Classic FM drivetime now!! _________________ Some say he once threw a microwave oven at a tramp and that all his potted plants are called 'Steve'.....all we know is, he's called 'The Stig!'. |

I agree
great work by Stuart once again
- it's the only time I'll listen to drivetime now
shame it's only 2 weeks
saturday afternoons are a better time for me to listen to the radio anyway so I suppose I shouldn't complain!

Yep, great start with Focus, heard Living By Numbers by New Music, which I haven't heard for yonks, two weeks of being able to listen to the radio of an early evening. Bliss. _________________ Author: “To the Ends of the Earth: A Snapshot of Aviation in North-Eastern Siberia, Summer 1992”

Yep it was great to listen to Stuart tonight, I was just reaching for the R4 button when Stuart Maconie came up on the Drivetime jingle! So tomorrow when I know I will be driving in heavy commutor traffic at 5 ish, Stuart on Drivetime will relax me, brilliant.

Yes, great to hear Stuart on Drivetime and a few good music selections (but I could do without Focus yet again - umpteen times in the last few weeks and a question on Popmaster, are they bringing out a greatest hits?) |

Music from Chris recently has been more varied than Stuart. Stuarts low key manner also takes a bit of getting used to. He seems to struggle to breakout of that monotone delivery. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

It's wonderful to have Stuart back on Drivetime where he should be.
Do you think we enjoy the presenters we think we would like if we met them in a social situation? |

I agree. Chris plays good stuff AND rubbish. There's variety for you
Stuart plays more good stuff.

Yes, it takes me about 1.5 minutes to get used to Stuart.
I've never got used to Evans, even after 10 minutes, so I eventually switch off.

Good question. I think the key to successful radio presenters is that we feel they're our mate. Once they start getting up themselves or going on about stuff we can't relate to, then they're not very good.
So I can well imagine Ken Bruce being a good bloke to meet in the pub, or having Stuart on your pub quiz team. |

Maconie's more sedate tone and his playing of more indie music might be a plus for some but Chris with his varied music selections and general joie de vivre wins for me every time. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Two weeks good radio, with a presenter that has an outlook of a person 25+, good music, willing to talk to people maturely, will do for me. After that it will be back to the mp3 player, 5live and the dreaded 'H' word. Still, 2 weeks is a good holiday and I'll take what I can. _________________ Geddon

24 hours is a long time in politics, unfortunately, I think 2 weeks of listenable Drivetime will pass like a New York minute.

Drivetime this week resembles a motorway that has been turned into a pedestrianed area. Still its better than having ol cheesy Goodier cover I suppose. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I never asked for opinions on this, I just stated, that IMHO, it was great to have an adult Drivetime to listen to. You complained about SM on Drivetime, I just suggested that if you don't like Drivetime with SM, retune. As for opinions, you are entitled to yours about SM & CE, just as we all are; if you can't stand the heat, get out the kitchen!

It's nice to get a style of delivery that's less "listen to me or I'll sulk" and more appropriate to a listenership that can actually think for itself. With Stuart in the chair I'll actually listen to Drivetime again for the duration.

Yeah yeah, I know I'm a week late but what can I say, great to be able to listen to Drivetime again.
Have we not had the '10 things to fall off' quiz this week or have I missed it? If it's absent perhaps it could be bought back on Friday..name 10 things you'll do at 5.05pm next week. Oh god my head hurts at the thought. |

What - you mean that nice Stuart won't ever be sitting in for that idiot Evans again? I sincerely hope not! I've actually been able to keep the radio on after 5 this last week or so, and jolly nice it's been too!

Stuart has found his suitable slot & I am glad for him Except that all the specialist shows I listen to are being moved around to accomodate him. Stuart's a serious broadcaster but he is not an entertainer. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

julia,
I've nothing against Stuart. Honestly. I feel sorry for the guy. The controller tried to make him do something he is not suited for : daytime radio. At least now he is getting a shot to do what he is best at. If only he can get a word in edgeways _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

Got to say that I am really enjoying Stuart on Drivetime right now, good music and great to have a thinking persons competition. Oh ernie do you know the answer to my question, ella seems to think you are the font of all knowledge, with respect to this anyway?

I cannot get on with Stuart Maconi ... he always sounds "hacked off" to me, nothing seems to excite him and he shows very little enthusiasm, if any at all, for the guests and the show in general. It's almost like he thinks he's too good for R2 and turns up and does a show ..in a;...well if I must....., kind of way. The connections quiz is rubbish. He does play good music though but the producers choose most of that. |
