Part of my NHS employment was as a junior doctors' personnel officer and I worked in this area for 27 years. I don't profess to understand all the whys and wherefores of the current job application/interview fiasco but we relied on much more traditional methods. They weren't always perfect but on the whole they worked. So I have the deepest sympathy for all those doctors who not only have to sort out their futures in the midst of all this chaos but need to remain focused on patient care in the meantime. And I have sympathy too for consultants, who must be worried about knock-on effects, and junior/middle managers, who will inevitably get caught in the crossfire.
