Superlative show on Saturday (when isn't it?). Cliff's Don't Talk to Him has such a strong melody--it's really underrated. Can still whistle I Was Kaiser Bill's Batman. And Baked Jam Roll in Your Eye must be the niftiest of insults!
Many thanks to RB for a masterly selection of items and BM for his soothing presentation. But I was sorry to hear his reference to Clinton Ford's serious illness--may his health improve soon.

It's generally thought 'Whistling Jack Smith' was actually the legendary Mike Sammes Singers in disguise - there was an album released on the back of the single's success which featured a bloke purporting to be Jack himself on the sleeve, but he was actually the brother of the lead singer of Unit Four + 2 (of Concrete and Clay fame), and to the best of my knowledge had no involvement in the actual recording sessions.
'Kaiser Bill' is a great tune - never fails to put a stupid grin on my face! _________________ "....you're wearing a plywood bow tie with Dundee United on it?" |

I remember Unit 4 + 2, Concrete & Clay, was a huge hit in 64 or 65, didn't realise that info about Whistling Jack Smith, also a great record. Thanks mcl, I have a love of this kind of pop trivia, stands one in good stead at those music quizes
