I remember listening to him in the early 90's on Night Ride, just before Alex Lester. He had the sound of Richard Allinson, laid back with a dry sense of humour but with a twinkle in his voice. The last I heard he'd done a stint with BBC Northampton/Berkshire? _________________ I'm trying to stop trying, guru. |

A great presenter. He now does early breakfast 5-7am for BBC Radio Berkshire before Andrew Peach [who sometimes reads the news on Radio 2 at weekends] comes on. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I loved his tenure on Night Ride in the 90s - there was something about that show that almost seemed like it was stepping into another world....probably the fact Steve had to read his own news, and there was no-one else on the show!
I really enjoyed the overnight Radio 2 shows back then - at the weekends you used to get the newsreaders like Deadly, Jon Briggs and Colin Berry at 1am, and it was great to hear them throwing off the shackles of news and cutting loose a bit. I think it was those shows that inspired me to get into radio myself - it's still an ambition of mine to be on Radio 2 at four in the morning for some reason! |

I went out of my way to listen online to his show (thanks for the info Floyd) He'd changed so much I hardly recognised him! The 'cheeky edge' has gone from his voice and even his 'voice' has changed. Somewhere along the line he seems to have had the stuffing knocked out of him. Shame. _________________ I'm trying to stop trying, guru. |

Sorry to hear that. It's always a disappointment when someone we remember fondly from the past seems not to have aged too well. I used to love the Nightride shows back in the early 90's as well. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |
