I'd like to read that confirmation, where is it? |

I am in the minority when I say this, but I think Lesley Douglas's departure is a huge blow for Radio 2. She introduced a lot of good talent to the network, and was highly respected in the music industry.
I'm sorry she's gone. |

Mark L,
I have to admit she had talent and is/was respected, but her appointment of Russell Brand was foolish. He was a loose cannon from day 1.
I also didn't agree with her appointment of Chris Evans and Dermot. You may recall at the time of Evans's appointment there were hundreds complaining on media forums and blodgs all over the internet, yet the BBC said they's only had (I think) 57 official complaints. She refused to come on R4 Feedback three times to answer the complaints, she sent a minion instead. I think eventually she did appear on Feedback but did not answer the complaints properly.
The worst thing she has done is alienate the older listeners and listeners who enjoy the lighter side of music. Melodies for You and Your 100 Best Tunes are now replaced by Alan Titchmarsh who appears to play a very limited selection of his own Broadway/Hollywood/classical choices.
She also moved Desmond Carrington from Sunday just before his 25th Anniversary. Personally I quite like Desmond's slot on a Tuesday evening but the move infuriated his listeners.

John,
The appointment of Chris Evans and Dermot O'Leary did cause a bit of an outrage amongst some listeners, but both presenters soon settled in nicely. Chris is great company to drive home to, and Dermot is great company on a Saturday afternoon, even if it is in the car on the way to footy.
Regarding Desmond Carrington, I can't really comment as I have never listened to his show (sorry, he doesn't cut it for me). I'm more of an Evans/Wright/Bruce/Ross/O'Leary/Radcliffe/Maconie listener.
Lesley Douglas changed parts of the schedule that probably needed updating. Or perhaps she was instructed to update them by her superiors? |

I think schedule changes were always her decision. Nobody else in their right mind would have appointed Russell Brand!

Well, judging from what Paul Gambaccini said yesterday, Russell Brand was Lesley's "pet". Indeed, she did let Brand get away with murder, but that's to be expected as Brand is a controversial comic and shock jock. In many respects, he reminds me of that late Kenny Everett.
I reckon Brand will be back at the BBC one day, just like Everett was. |

Various articles quote Brands listenership figures at 370,000. Presumably this is from the last rajars. This must be the lowest audience figure on the network. _________________ His name was ernie ........ and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west..... |

I think late Sunday shows also get less than 0.5k
It makes you wonder why Saturday night is a good time for a laddish show when most fans/lads will be up the pub
His podcast was popular and iplayer too I expect.

But wasnt he getting something similar on 6 Music on Sunday mornings. I would expect that nobody would care what he said on 6 Music

I'm not aware of Brand's listening figures on Radio 2, but he was always popular in the podcasts.
If Sunday evenings pull in more listeners than Saturdays, it's probably because more people are out and about on a Saturday night, or they're watching TV etc. More people are out and about on a Saturday night than a Sunday. |

I'm getting bored with the Brand/Ross Sachsgate, just waiting for the dawn of the new Light Programme
but just read these today:
The Daily Mail are 'suggesting' that Radio 2's Dave Barber was in the chain of command that approved the Brand/Ross phone prank, and that Lesley Douglas accepted his approval but didn't listen herself
The man behind the decision .....
oh, and Mark Thompson has....
...left the door open for the return of Lesley Douglas!

Following on from the Dave Barber article above from John W., I noticed an interview in the same paper by Piers Morgan about the saintly Katherine Jenkins and her past drug habits. Is nothing sacred!

"The door has been left open for Lesley Douglas."
In that case, why the hell did Mark Thompson accept her resignation? |
