i can understand why they might not have wanted to do anything. When you look at a lot of other "name" acts who did appear, they did tend to look like caricatures of their old selves (Ray Davies does come to mind here, bless him) and when the Stones play they're certainly full on. If the others - and we're really talking about Keef and Woody here - weren't so keen on this parade then perhaps they had a point.

However....... my original point was that I find it odd that neither the band nor their music was featured in any significant way in either show as it was, for instance, with David Bowie (who also declined to appear, I assume).

What does mystify me is that there weren't even any hints of Stones music in the main sequences - yet there were lots of snippets of Beatles work throughout. Very odd. Perhaps Danny Boyle doesn't appreciate the band either.

It's got nothing to do with Danny Boyle.

You're getting confused. Danny Boyle did the Opening Ceremony, where the Stones DID appear- well some of their music did. They weren't in the Closing Ceremony but that was done by some other guy whose name I can't rememeber and can't be bothered to find out. It's no biggy.

Yes, you're right Rachel. I concede. However, I'm puzzled as to why.... etc etc!

The Closing Ceremony was done by a bloke called Kim Gavin. He got the job on the basis of his work with Take That's stadium tours and his glittering CV includes the Kid Creole musical Oh What A Night and the jukebox musical Love Shack (starring Jon from S Club 7 and Noel from Hear-Say). He doesn't seem to have that much interest in music.

After being dragged kicking and screaming to the Take That "Circus" tour performance at Wembley Stadium three years ago I have to give him credit for one of the best, most impressive stadium shows I've ever seen, so I can understand why he was chosen for the closing ceremony gig.
