Cheer up all you fellow grumpies, I bring you good news

According to a new study which tracked children from the 1920's until old age, students who were classed as highly cheerful by their teachers at school died at an earlier age than their former classmates

The reason for this could be that people who were 'too happy' might be more inclined to take silly risks which could put them in danger

One of the authors of the study, Professor June Gruber from the Department of Psychology at Yale University explained people who strove to be happy could end up more disappointed than those who did not

The study revealed the strongest predictor of happiness is not money or external recognition through success or fame but rather having meaningful social relationships

It seems from the survey that the best way to increase your happiness is to stop worrying about constantly being happy and instead divert your energy towards nurturing the social bonds you have with other people

So all us grumpies on here can rest assured that we're all going to be posting on this forum for very many years to come

But just as a final thought what about that great man Ken Dodd
Didn't he sing a song called 'Happiness' and not only is he still with us ,he's still performing as well as ever

Oh well perhaps it's back to the drawing board Confused

If Professor Gruber's theory is true I just wonder whether I might stand any chance of outliving Chris Evans Very Happy

Perhaps it might also explain why apparently Arsenal has the highest average age for fans of all clubs in the Premier League

Only joking you Evans heads and Gunners fans before anyone starts having a go at me Laughing

Sorry to be a grumpy old git but I pay no attention to these 'surveys'. Who the hell are these self appointed 'experts' who come up with these statements of the bleedin' obvious? Tomorrow another 'expert' will come up with the opposite view, that happier people live longer.

The world (especially the USA) is full of experts, academics and consultants who do nothing in particular except try and justify their miserable existence by producing these fatuous surveys, at taxpayers' expense of course. Why don't they get proper jobs? And who needs a Department of Psychiatry anyway? (gullible Americans, perhaps).

Yours, grumpily happy who intends to live to be a hundred.

Schiz, you've got to admit it's a great gig if you can get it though

I'm just wondering whether Yale University would give me some funding to research the comparative effects of people drinking large quantities of English real ale compared to European Lager Laughing

It'd probably go something like this:

Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

I reckon about 40 years of funded research should come up with the right result

The only problem is that I probably wouldn't survive that long because I'd be too happy Very Happy
