What the World Needs Now.
No big deal but over the weekend, I heard this song ( which is one of my favourites ) on either SOTS or POTPs sung by Jackie de Shannon and probably the best version.
But it's been bugging me for years that, back in the 70s, I had another version of this song on a single which included snippets of news audio relating to the assassination of Martin Luther King, JFK and his brother Bobby..
It included part of the "I have a Dream" speech, the "President has been shot" news and a further section of speech by his brother talking about Jack whereby he almost broke down in tears.. which made me develop a lump in my throat at the time too!
Does anybody else remember this version?... just curious. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Not only do we remember it, we have it in our collection. It is a medley of two songs merged together, 'What the world needs now is love' and 'Abraham, Martin and John' by Tom Clay. I find it uspsetting, but then lots of songs and bits of music do that to me. JW's theme tune when he came back to Radio 2 after his illness made the tears run, just one example! _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |
